Empty Chemical Containers

What?

Do not throw empty chemical containers in the sanitary waste without guidance.

How?

  • Completely deface or remove chemical labels before placing empties in waste receptacles.
  • It is acceptable to reuse an empty bottle for waste if the bottle is completely empty and the material being added is compatible with the residue.
  • Duct tape can be used to cover old labels and protect the container from rupturing.

Why?

Residual material within a container may still be hazardous. Specific guidelines need to be followed.
