WHAT IS THE COLLEGE CREDIT PLUS (CCP) PROGRAM

• CCP was created by the Ohio Legislature to allow students to earn college credits while still in high school
• Students receive both high school and college credit simultaneously
• Tuition, fees and textbooks related to the coursework are provided free of charge for public & non-public students.
• Homeschooled students are responsible for purchasing textbooks

• UA Wayne College is a regional campus of The University of Akron
• Total enrollment is 2,200
• Nearly 1000 CCP students currently enrolled
• Average in-person class size is 18

• Free Tutoring (online & on campus)
• On Campus Library (online & on-campus)

ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES

• Graduate with College Credit
• Students can earn up to 30 college credit hours per academic year
• Up to 120 college credit hours can be completed while in the CCP program
• Students can enroll in summer classes
• How much can it really be worth?
• Taking classes full-time for 2 years (at the Wayne Campus)

Tuition: 60 credits at $320/each = $19,200

Books: 20 text books at $120/each = $2,400

Total = $21,600

STARTING YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPT

• Your official college transcript begins as a CCP student
• You will need to have transcripts sent to any colleges in which you apply
• You are considered a new college freshman for scholarship purposes
• Transferring credits
• General Education credits will transfer to any public university in Ohio. Students attending a private or out-of-state college must contact those schools individually to confirm transferability.

�PREFERRED ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS�2026-2027 academic year

• 3.0 cumulative GPA (required by the State)
• Submitting ACT or SAT scores is optional, but strongly preferred
• College Readiness Standards as determined by the Ohio Department of Higher Education:
• ACT: 18 English, 22 Math and 22 Reading
• SAT: 530 Math, and 440 Evidence-Based Reading & Writing
• Admission does not guarantee enrollment into specific courses. Applicants who do not take the ACT or SAT will be required to complete placement testing through the University.

HOW TO APPLY

1. Complete the Undergraduate Admissions Application

• Check the box marked College Credit Plus Program

2. Complete the Signature Page & Mature Content Permission Slip

• Signatures are required by the student, the parent or guardian, and the school counselor

​

3. Submit an official high school transcript

• For applicants in 7^th grade, transcripts should include 5^th and 6^th grades
• For applicants in 8^th grade, transcripts should include 6^th and 7^th grades

​

4. Submit ACT and/or SAT test score results (optional, but strongly preferred)*

• Testing must be completed prior to the application deadline

​

5. Application deadlines**

• April 15 to begin in the summer (May/June), or the fall (August)
• October 15 to begin in the spring (January)

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU APPLY

• If you meet the admissions requirements, you will receive a letter of acceptance in the mail
• Take any necessary assessment tests (Math, English and Reading) based on ACT/SAT scores, or if you chose test-score optional admission
• Attend New Student Orientation (NSO) to meet with an academic advisor and schedule classes
• Also, be sure to meet with your school counselor to confirm you are meeting all high school graduation requirements

REASONS TO COMPLETE PLACEMENT TESTING BEFORE ADMISSION…

• Class scheduling and registration process will be delayed until testing is completed.

​

• Math placement through the University could include up to 5 separate placement tests rather than one ACT/SAT.

​

​

• Students will have a better idea of where they stand as far as enrollment into classes. Remember, admission does not guarantee enrollment.

​

• Students wishing to take online classes can schedule sooner and before many online classes are full if they have already done placement testing.

IMPORTANT CCP INFORMATION

• Class attendance is mandatory as it is in high school.
• All schedule changes and future schedules must first be approved by your school counselor, and then by the Wayne Campus CCP Coordinator.
• Students must achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA to avoid the probation and dismissal process.
• Students/parents can be held financially responsible for any classes withdrawn from (after the second week of each semester) or failed classes, by their school district .

CCP STATE OF OHIO LAWS

Academic Probation

• Students are only allowed to take one class per semester while on probation.
• If a student chooses to retake a class that they failed or received a D in previously, the class does not count in GPA calculation for purposes of probation.

​

Retaking Classes

​

• Any student wishing to retake a D or F grade must appeal to the school district superintendent.
• Students will be either charged for the first attempt (if they received a F), or the second attempt (if they received a D).
• School districts only pay once per class, per student.

​

KNOW YOUR LIMITS

• Your academic advisor will want to know if you need day or evening classes, certain days of the week, etc.

​

• Homework: For 12-15 credits (full-time) expect to spend at least 24-30 hours per week studying

​

• Work: If you are studying 24-30 hours per week, that leaves 10-16 hours per week for a job or extracurricular activity (60 hour principle)

​

• Online classes are typically more time consuming than face-to-face classes

​

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN �HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE

• College courses are harder than high school

​

• College courses taught in a shorter amount of time

​

• The responsibility of learning shifts from the teacher to the student

​

• In college, most of the learning occurs outside the classroom

​

• You are on your own unless you ask for help

​

• You are in control of your future, and your future transcripts

​

• The UA Wayne Campus is usually open, even during inclement weather

​

WHAT COURSES SHOULD YOU TAKE

• By law, CCP students take General Education (GE) courses that will meet most GE requirements at most colleges and universities
• Ex: English I and II, psychology, sociology, public speaking, government and politics, microeconomics, etc.
• These are the classes offered through your high school, either by live instructors in-person or through online, distance learning format.
• Always discuss college schedules with your school counselor, and confirm you are meeting high school graduation requirements
