Willow cuttings will be taken from along the Arkansas River within Lake Pueblo State Park and/or from along the river within the City of Pueblo. Cuttings will be planted by hand, with the use of basic hand tools. The focus area is highlight on slide two and consists of numerous areas of exposed sand and gravel bank, from approximately 100 yards below the wooden pedestrian bridge down to the “Honor Farm” ditch. We expect the project to only take 1day with the help of approximately 10 – 20 volunteers. It may be beneficial to install one or two “watering stations” that volunteers (and the general public) can use to water the cuttings from the river during the first summer while the root systems are established. A water station would consist of a temporary 4x4 timber anchored in the ground with a bucket hook, 5 gal. bucket and signage to explain purpose. An alternative would be to use a dead tree along the bank in place of the 4x4 timber.
