Bullying:

  • Is mean or hurtful on purpose.
  • Has happened over and over again or is likely to be repeated.
  • Involves an imbalance of power.

Bullying is NOT:

  • Friendly teasing.
  • Peer conflict and arguing.
  • Fighting.

Bullying:

  • Is mean or hurtful on purpose.
  • Has happened over and over again or is likely to be repeated.
  • Involves an imbalance of power.

you suspect bullying is happening.

Call the school.

School staff will:

  • Increase observations of students
  • Ask students and parents for additional information, as needed
  • Share the concern with other school staff who can help
  • Refer for investigation, if appropriate

Know what to do if...

bullying is reported to you.

Listen carefully to determine whether or not what the child is experiencing is bullying or something else.

  • If the situation fits the definition of bullying, call the school and provide the names of students involved, the allegations, and any other additional information.
  • If you determine the situation does not fit the definition of bullying but still needs attention, contact the school.
