Implementation of MH Documentation Form

CONVERSION TO RYANODEX

  • What is Ryanodex?
    • Ryanodex is a newly formulated dantrolene. It uses nanosuspension technology which allows rapid reconstitution and administration. Dosing is the same as Dantrium.
  • Differences between the medications:
    • Dantrium 20mg vial mixed with 60ml Sterile Water
      • Difficult to mix. Time from beginning of reconstitution to administration is approximately 28 minutes.
      • Multiple vials needed to achieve recommended initial dose.
    • Ryanodex 250mg vial mixed with 5ml of Sterile Water
      • Easier to mix
      • Faster administration to patient. Time = life for MH.
      • With this new product, most patients will only need 1 vial.

CONVERSION TO RYANODEX

  • Total amount of Dantrolene in the cart will actually increase slightly:
    • Dantrolene 20mg per vial x 36 = 720mg
    • Ryanodex 250mg x 3 = 750mg
  • Initial dose is the SAME for both products = 2.5 mg /kg
  • Reference Materials / Dosing Ranges in the MH Cart are the SAME. Only updated with direction for mixing and how to determine total dose.
    • Volume to administer:

TOTAL DOSE divided by 50= mL

  • If continuous infusion of Dantrolene is required, contact pharmacy and order an IVPB. Pharmacy will mix using the 20mg product vials. RYANODEX CAN NOT BE FURTHER DILUTED.
