We can “receive of [God’s] fulness, and be glorified.”
We can “receive of [God’s] fulness, and be glorified.”
SCRIPTURE
1 Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am;
20 For if you keep my commandments you shall receive of his fulness, and be glorified in me as I am in the Father; therefore, I say unto you, you shall receive grace for grace.
28 He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:1,20,28
We can “receive of [God’s] fulness, and be glorified.”
Brian K. Ashton
Of the Seventy
As spirit sons and daughters of God, each of us has the potential to become like the Father…We do this by striving to be obedient to the will of the Father, as the Savior was, and by continually repenting. As we do these things, we “receive grace for grace” until we receive of the Father’s fulness and are endowed with “his character, perfections, and attributes.”
Given the distance between what we are as mortals and what Heavenly Father has become, it is not surprising that some feel that becoming like the Father is unattainable. Nevertheless, the scriptures are clear. If we will cleave in faith to Christ, repent, and seek God’s grace through obedience, eventually we will become like the Father. I take great comfort in the fact that those who strive to be obedient will “receive grace for grace” and ultimately “receive of his fulness.” In other words, we won’t become like the Father on our own. Rather, it will come through gifts of grace, some big but mostly small, that build upon one another until we have a fulness. But, brothers and sisters, it will come!

I Am a Child of God(Children’s Songbook #2)
MUSIC
1. I am a child of God,
And he has sent me here,
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear.
2. I am a child of God,
And so my needs are great;
Help me to understand his words
Before it grows too late.
3. I am a child of God.
Rich blessings are in store;
If I but learn to do his will,
I’ll live with him once more.
4. I am a child of God.
His promises are sure;
Celestial glory shall be mine
If I can but endure.

We worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ
We worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ
SCRIPTURE
19 I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fulness.
21 And now, verily I say unto you, I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn;
22 And all those who are begotten through me are partakers of the glory of the same, and are the church of the Firstborn.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:19, 21-22
We worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ
Dean M. Davies
Former Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric
Worshipping God is such an essential element in the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ that if we fail to receive Him in our hearts, we will seek for Him in vain in our councils, churches, and temples…True worship transforms us into sincere and earnest disciples of our beloved Master and Savior, Jesus Christ. We change and become more like Him. We become more understanding and caring. More forgiving. More loving…True worship leads to an unwavering determination to walk the path of discipleship.
…As we worship, our souls are refined and we commit to walk in the footsteps of our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. And from this resolve, we acquire charity. When we worship, our hearts are drawn out in praise to our blessed God morning, noon, and night. We hallow and honor Him continually—in our meetinghouses, homes, temples, and all our labors. When we worship, we open our hearts to the healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Our lives become the token and expression of our worship.

Beautiful Savior (Children’s Songbook #62)
MUSIC
1. Fair is the sunshine,
Fairer the moonlight
And all the stars in heav’n above;
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer
And brings to all the world his love.
2. Fair are the meadows,
Fairer the woodlands,
Robed in the flowers of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer.
He makes the sorrowing spirit sing.

I lived with Heavenly Father before I came to earth
SCRIPTURE
21 And now, verily I say unto you, I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn;
23 Ye were also in the beginning with the Father; that which is Spirit, even the Spirit of truth;
38 Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:21,23, 38
I lived with Heavenly Father before I came to earth
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
We do not know many details about life in that premortal sphere, but we do know some. Our Heavenly Father has revealed to us who He is, who we are, and who we can become.
Back in that first estate, you knew with absolute certainty that God existed because you saw and heard Him. You knew Jesus Christ, who would become the Lamb of God. You had faith in Him. And you knew that your destiny was not to stay in the security of your premortal home. As much as you loved that eternal sphere, you knew you wanted and needed to embark on a journey. You would depart from the arms of your Father, pass through a veil of forgetfulness, receive a mortal body, and learn and experience things that hopefully would help you grow to become more like Father in Heaven and return to His presence.
- President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Your Wonderful Journey Home,”General Conference, April 2013
I Lived in Heaven(Children’s Songbook #4)
MUSIC
1. I lived in heaven a long time ago, it is true;
Lived there and loved there with people I know. So did you.
Then Heav’nly Father presented a beautiful plan,
All about earth and eternal salvation for man.
2. Father said he needed someone who had enough love
To give his life so we all could return there above.
There was another who sought for the honor divine.
Jesus said, “Father, send me, and the glory be thine.”
3. Jesus was chosen, and as the Messiah he came,
Conquering evil and death through his glorious name,
Giving us hope of a wonderful life yet to be
Home in that heaven where Father is waiting for me.

I lived with Heavenly Father before I came to earth
Truth is knowledge of things in the past, present, and future
Truth is knowledge of things in the past, present, and future
SCRIPTURE
24 And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;
26 The Spirit of truth is of God. I am the Spirit of truth, and John bore record of me, saying: He received a fulness of truth, yea, even of all truth;
30 All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:24, 26, 30
Truth is knowledge of things in the past, present, and future
Dallin H. Oaks
Of the First Presidency
Modern revelation defines truth as a “knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come”…Our personal decisions should be based on information from sources that are qualified on the subject and free from selfish motivations…When we seek the truth about religion, we should use spiritual methods appropriate for that search: prayer, the witness of the Holy Ghost, and study of the scriptures and the words of modern prophets.
…The methods of science lead us to what we call scientific truth. But “scientific truth” is not the whole of life. Those who do not learn “by study and also by faith” limit their understanding of truth to what they can verify by scientific means. That puts artificial limits on their pursuit of truth…We find true and enduring joy by coming to know and acting upon the truth about who we are, the meaning of mortal life, and where we are going when we die. Those truths cannot be learned by scientific or secular methods.
- President Dallin H. Oaks, “Truth and the Plan,” General Conference, October 2018

Truth is knowledge of things in the past, present, and future
The glory of God is light and truth
The glory of God is light and truth
SCRIPTURE
36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.
37 Light and truth forsake that evil one.
39 And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the tradition of their fathers.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:36-37, 39
The glory of God is light and truth
Theodore M. Burton
Of the Seventy
We have been advised that if our eye be single to the glory of God, our whole body shall be filled with light, and there shall be no darkness in us, for a body which is filled with God’s light will be able to comprehend all things…There is great promise in these words for those who seek the light of truth…God’s light includes the physical light we see, which makes us feel so warm and comfortable. God’s light is also the power to understand and comprehend all things. In other words, all kinds of light are related to intelligence and truth.
…Satan is that wicked one who comes and takes away light and truth from the children of men through their disobedience and because of the traditions of their fathers. But the Lord has commanded us to bring up our children in light and truth.
- Elder Theodore M. Burton, “Light and Truth,”General Conference, April 1981

The glory of God is light and truth
We are commanded to “set in order [our] own house.”
We are commanded to “set in order [our] own house.”
SCRIPTURE
42 You have not taught your children light and truth, according to the commandments; and that wicked one hath power, as yet, over you, and this is the cause of your affliction.
43 And now a commandment I give unto you—if you will be delivered you shall set in order your own house, for there are many things that are not right in your house.
48 Your family must needs repent and forsake some things, and give more earnest heed unto your sayings…
50 …and see that they are more diligent and concerned at home, and pray always, or they shall be removed out of their place.
- Doctrine and Covenants 93:42-43,48,50
We are commanded to “set in order [our] own house.”
M. Russell Ballard
Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Every human being is a spirit child of God and lived with Heavenly Father before coming to earth. He entrusts his spirit children to earthly parents who provide a mortal body for them through the miracle of physical birth and gives to parents the sacred opportunity and responsibility to love, protect, teach, and to bring them up in light and truth so they may one day, through the atonement and resurrection of Jesus Christ, return to our Father’s presence.
These precious souls come to us in purity and innocence. As parents, we assume an immense responsibility for their care and well-being. Parents share this sacred trust with brothers and sisters, grandparents, teachers, neighbors, and all who touch the lives and impress or influence the souls of these precious children. King Benjamin admonished parents many years ago, “But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another.”
- President M. Russell Ballard, “Teach the Children,” General Conference, April 1991
Teach Me to Walk in the Light (Children’s Songbook #177)
MUSIC
1. (Child) Teach me to walk in the light of his love;
Teach me to pray to my Father above;
Teach me to know of the things that are right;
Teach me, teach me to walk in the light.
2. (Parent) Come, little child, and together we'll learn
Of his commandments, that we may return
Home to his presence, to live in his sight--
Always, always to walk in the light.
3. (Both) Father in Heaven, we thank thee this day
For loving guidance to show us the way.
Grateful, we praise thee with songs of delight!
Gladly, gladly we'll walk in the light.
