EXTINGUISHERS

There are several type of fire extinguishers:

  • Water: Only for Class A (ordinary combustibles) fires. It may spread a Class B or K fire.
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2): For Class B (flammable liquids) and C (electrical) fires. The extinguisher may dissipate quickly allowing for a reflash.
  • Dry Chemical: Highly effective for Class B and C fires, contain baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). They may cause liquid fires to splash.
  • Multi-Purpose Dry Chemical: Effective on Class A, B, and C fires.
  • Wet Chemical: Can be used on Class A and ideal for Class K (cooking oils) fires.
