Literature� What is it?

• Literature means any written document.
• Parts of Literature: Prose, poetry, drama, essays, any written work based on philosophy, art, history, religion and cultures, scientific and legal document, newspapers, periodicals, letters.

What Role Does Literature Play?

• Literature portrays diversity in natural ways and teaches moral lessons of life.
• Can enhance students’ understanding of others.
• Books of diverse perspectives are found in all genres.

Literature reflects reality

• Portrays the description of daily life
• Describes the thinking pattern, social norms prevalent in the society
• Depiction of common man’s life.

Literature helps to understand the life

• Biographies of great people, real life stories of courage and sacrifice inspire the readers
• Bible, Koran, Bhagwadgeeta, Ramayana and Mahabharata, Tripitika provide guiding principles of life, values and ideals of the people.
• Moral stories are helpful to learn important lessons in life.
• Real life stories give the messages to understand our life.

Literature provides information

• Research by famous inventors narrates the stories of their discoveries and suggestions
• Ongoing developments in science and technology
• Stories of human evolution and human life in those times helps the mankind

• Literature serves as a food for thought
• It encourages our imagination and creativity
• Able to become self-confident
• Literature allow people to develop new ideas and ethical standpoints

• Literature allow us to know and learn the rituals, beliefs, superstitions and culture of every religion
