ITEMS FROM FIRST MEETING
• Switch to new template / format (not optional but need to agree on tennis
specific changes)
• Appropriate reciprocity and protection for clubs and the investments they
make
• Realistic expectations of clubs (e.g. insurance coverage, tennis Pros,
attendance on site)
• Seeking meaningful provisions for clubs to upgrade facilities (e.g. LED lights,
court rebuilding)
NOTE: CITY HAS DECIDED NOT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH A NEW AGREEMENT
AT THIS TIME AND WILL ISSUE A FURTHER EXTENSION
Indoor Facilities
Ottawa has the demand to support at least 30 indoor courts
• Current inventory is 18
• Need identified for 3 additional facilities of 4-6 courts in the East, South, and West suburbs
• Manotick TC submitting a grant application to the City of Ottawa this month on a proposal for a 5 court facility (+8 pickleball)
• Another group including the NCTA as a partner working on a proposal for a 6 court facility in Kanata / Stittsville
• Still seeking an opportunity in the East end
Ball Recycling
Does your club recycle used tennis balls?
• If not, do you realize how much space they occupy in landfills?
• Did you know that tennis balls take 400 years to decompose?
We have an active recycling program available
• We collect the balls from your club and recycle them for a small fee ($0.13 per ball)
