Shrāddha Paksha

  • The term ‘Paksha’ means fortnight (during the month of August -September).

  • The word Shrāddha has its roots in Sanskrit word Shraddhā which means reverence, trust, or faith.

  • Also known as ‘Pitra Paksha’. The term ‘Pitra’ means ancestors (grand and great grand parents).

  • During this period, we remember our ancestors and their teachings, perform puja and make offerings (usually in the form of food and charity).

Pitra Paksha or Shrāddha Paksha

  • Rituals are observed to remember

the teachings of ancestors.

  • Rituals are observed to attain prosperity,

welfare, and blessings as well as to express gratitude to

ancestors.

  • What is Shrāddha for us?
  • Continue the work/tradition if left unfinished by grand parents (ancestors).
  • Continue the work/tradition what they have completed and established.
