10/9 to 10/13

October 16th - 20th

Hi Parents!

  • Our field trip to Ovens Auditorium is tomorrow! Please make sure your child wears their GREEN class shirt. We will be eating snack before we leave and will eat lunch when we return from the trip. We will have lunch in the classroom, so students buying lunch from the cafeteria will most likely have a bagged lunch.
  • Wednesday, Oct 18: Early Release Day. Dismissal will begin around 11:50

We had another great week together. We started making our Magnificent Things in class. Students are working with their group to create something that will solve a problem and benefit our classroom. Ask you student what their group is building. It has been wonderful to see all of the ideas and hard work start to take shape. They are really honing in on the habits of character that we have been discussing over the past few weeks (initiative, perseverance, collaboration and responsibility).

In skills we are continuing to work on spelling patterns based on individual student needs.

We will begin our Unit 2 in social studies next week. We will learn more about our community and how different inventions and civil movements have shaped our community.

In math we are learning how to use an open number line to solve addition problems. We are also continuing to practice solving story problems. A big hurdle that first graders need to overcome is comprehending what the story problem is asking. Is it asking for the difference, sum or missing addend? You can practice asking different story problems at home with your child.
