25 of 33

Increase Implementation of Aligned JK-12 Close Reading Practices

  • The clearest indicator of a students’ reading success is their ability to answer questions associated with complex texts - not their understanding of specific standards.

  • A vast body of research shows that greater access to rigorous, grade-appropriate texts and tasks significantly closes outcome gaps.

29

…to close disparities in opportunity and achievement.

Cambridge students are able to demonstrate proficiency of grade-level standards when applied to low-complexity texts.

Bright Spots & Areas of Growth

36

Areas of Growth

  • Not all student groups have returned to 2019 achievement levels; African-American/Black students remain furthest from 2019 achievement of any group in all three subjects.
  • MCAS growth differs by student group.

Bright Spots

  • As measured by the state’s accountability system, the district is making substantial progress against its improvement targets.
  • All schools have either exceeded/met accountability targets or are making substantial improvement.
  • We exceeded our chronic absenteeism targets in grades 1-8 overall and for lowest performing students.
  • Overall in ELA, math and Science achievement matches or exceeds 2019 achievement.
  • All grades in ELA and math had at least moderate growth.
  • We are above the state in every grade, which is the first time in several years (grade 6 math).
