This event will challenge students to examine real problems - in their school, community, or the world at large - identify how mathematics is present in the issue, and demonstrate how mathematics can be used to find a solution. Students will be encouraged to put their training in mathematics to the test, taking their learning experiences and applying their skills to matters that exist beyond their textbook.

What is the Tri-County Culturally Responsive Mathematics Institute?

  • The Tri-County Culturally Responsive Mathematics Institute is a collaboration with Oakland Schools, Washtenaw ISD, and Wayne County RESA.

  • The project is designed to provide opportunities for teachers across three counties as well as the state to learn how to engage all students in meaningful culturally responsive mathematics, to increase engagement and relevance to all students.

  • Increase collective understanding of culturally responsive mathematics teaching.
  • Increase teacher capacity to facilitate CRMT.
  • Identify and create culturally responsive mathematics tasks for grades 6-12 aligned to all priority content standards.
  • Raise awareness of inequitable and harmful instructional practices
  • Develop and maintain a virtual site to store CRM tasks.
