DATA SOURCES AND LIMITATIONS

• Data sources: Missouri DHSS ,HIV surveillance unit data as of 12/31/2022. Illinois HIV surveilance data as of 9/28/2022 were used.      
• Limitations: Data from IL TGA is for the year 2021. Though efforts were made to get it earlier to present same year data for MO TGA and IL TGA, data could not be obtained due to 30% missing cases which are being ascertained.

INCIDENCE OF HIV DISEASE BY COUNTY-STL TGA, MO

• St. Louis County has the highest new case Counts (129) in 2022, followed by St Louis City (88)

• No new case was recorded in Warren County

HIV DISEASE PREVALENCE BY COUNTY-STL TGA, MO

• St. Louis City has the highest HIV disease prevalence (n = 3,478)
• Franklin, Lincoln and Warren counties have the least prevalence, below 1%

POPULATION PROPORTION BY COUNTIES-STL TGA, MO

• St. Louis county has highest population proportion with 47% followed by the St Charles County with 19%
• Warren and Lincoln county has the least population, below 5%

• St. Louis City has the highest Prevalence rate of HIV disease with 68% which is disproportionate to its population

• HIV prevalence is highest among Blacks (56.6%) followed by Whites (36.7%) and the least among Asian (0.7%)

• Males have much higher percentages of HIV disease compared to females in all race categories.
• Other /unknown race category shows that females have higher proportion of cases.

• MSM mode of transmission category has highest prevalence with 63% of cases.
• Heterosexual mode has next high prevalence with 18% of cases.

• 45-64 yrs age group has highest HIV disease prevalence ( 47%) followed by 25-44 yrs age group (38%).
• 19-24 yrs has the lowest HIV prevalence (3%).

• MSM is mode of transmission with highest HIV prevalence in all age groups represented here in this chart. 45-65 yrs have higher prevalence within MSM mode of transmission.

Madison county has the highest population percentage in the IL TGA(43%) followed by St. Clair with 42% population in the IL TGA.

High impact in St. Clair CO.

• St. Clair has higher HIV prevalence rate/percentage when measured per 100000 population 59% compared to Madison with 16% HIV prevalence.

• Incidence is highest in St. Clair county with 53 new cases.
• Madison county has the next highest incidence with 18 cases diagnosed in a year.

• Males have higher Prevalence of HIV disease with 82% of the total which is almost 4 times higher compared to the prevalence in females.

• Black/African American populations have the highest percentage of HIV disease prevalence(55%) with whites/Caucasians contributing to about 30% of the cases.

• Males have higher HIV prevalence compared to females across the race categories.
• Largest difference is noticed in whites and Hispanics with females under 20% of the cases.

MSM have highest percentage of HIV prevalence when categorized by MOT with 49% of the cases followed by Heterosexual mode with 23% of the cases.

• 45-54 yrs age a group has highest HIV prevalence followed by 55-64 yrs age group.
