The Coming of Enkidu
Summary- A man from Uruk discovers another man, Enkidu, who is of the beasts. He decides to trick Enkidu into leaving the beasts by luring him away from the herd with a woman. When he leaves the herd, he stays with the woman for a while, then tries to go back, but the animals run. The woman then convinces him to come to Uruk with her to meet Gilgamesh. When they get to Uruk Enkidu goes to meet Gilgamesh, and they fight. After their fight, they embrace and become friends.
Important Characters- Gilgamesh, Enkidu, The Goddess, Harlot
Elements of Epic Hero- The elements of the epic hero is Enkidu is over the beasts, and Uruk is very witty for finding a way to lure him out of the herd.
The Forest Journey
Important Characters- Gilgamesh, Shamash, Humbaba, Enkidu, Ninsun, Lugalbanda.
Summary- In this chapter, Gilgamesh has heard of a man named Humbaba who protects a forest of trees forbidden to all mortals. Gilgamesh and his friend Enkidu decide to go and kill this terrible man and take the trees back to their home. Because he is very worried about the journey, Gilgamesh gets divine whelp from the Gods. They each provide his with something to battle this demon. They do eventually kill Humbaba and are able to take the trees they had cut back to their home.

Elements of Epic Hero- Gilgamesh has the ability to be king and lead his subjects, strength so he can win fights, pride in his name, and courage to take on things that seem impossible.

The Death of Enkidu: Summary
Gilgamesh meets Ishtar, who tries to persuade him to love her. Knowing that Ishtar doesn’t keep her lovers for long, he tells her no and she finds every reason to get him in trouble. Ishtar tells her father Anu about how Gilgamesh had treated her and asks for the Bull of Heaven to take him down. After getting the Bull of Heaven and releasing it on Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh and his friend, Enkidu, kill it together. Soon after killing the Bull, Enkidu has a dream about how he is going to be told that him or Gilgamesh must die. This dream leads to Enkidu getting sick, and struck with sickness he ends up dying.

The Story of the Flood
Summary:
Enlil, the God of earth, decides to send a flood to kill everybody. However, the god of wisdom, Ea, betrays his promise to not tell anybody. He tells Utnapishtum to tear down his house, build a really big boat, and bring the seed of all living creatures onto it. The flood comes, and sure enough, everything was destroyed except Utnapishtum and his boat. Once he decides that it is safe, he preparfes a sacrifice for the gods. Then, Ea makes Utnapishtum and his wife gods.

Summary - Gilgamesh falls asleep at Utnapishtim's house for seven days and the wife makes a loaf of bread for each day and lays them next to him. Gilgamesh wakes and prepares to leave for Uruk with Urshanabi. Utnapishtim gives Gilgamesh garments that won't ware until he gets back. Gilgamesh gets a special flower that restores lost youth but it gets stolen by a snake. Then he gets back after crying and walking a lot.
Important Characters - Utnapishtim the Faraway, Gilgamesh, Utnapishtim’s wife, and Urshanabi the ferryman.
Elements of Epic Hero - Gilgamesh is an Epic Hero in the return because he accepts the challenge of trying to obtain a plant that will restore the youth he lost in his other trials.
