This is a guessing the word game. Each word is a compound word. Do you remember that a compound word is a word made up of two words? (For example, doghouse.) Watch the video and see how many compound words you can identify. Enjoy!

Teach me something! Remember to tell me the materials I will need and give me all the steps so I can learn something new from you!

Categories!

You can make a writing game for yourself. Think of a category - like dogs, birds, toys, or first names. Then, write ALL the things you can think of that fit that category!

EXAMPLE:

Category: Ice Cream Flavors

vanilla, chocolate, fudge swirl, mint chocolate chip, butter pecan, cookie dough, butter toffee & cake batter.

Diary or Journal!

Get a notebook from home, or staple some papers together. Now you have a journal where you can write about our day. Get creative and add a picture!

Top 10!

What are your favorites? Make a top ten list!

First, think of a category - for example: snacks, sports, movies, books, animals.

Then, number each line on your paper and list your top 10 in that category. Share with your family so they can learn more about what interests YOU!

Write a food shopping list!

Get a paper and pencil and talk to mom or dad. Check the fridge and pantry. What food does your family need?

Make a Comic Strip!

Create characters & decide what they will do in your comic strip. Use word balloons. Make boxes for each part of your comic strip.

Are there things you want to do at home? Write a “TO DO” list. Number the lines on your paper, and write one thing next to each number. Cross each thing off as you do it! Add to your list all week!

Write a book!

Get 3 or 4 pieces of paper. Stack them on top of each other. Fold them hamburger style. Ask a grown up to help staple along the fold. Now, write a book! Books you might consider:

  • Personal narrative from your life
  • Realistic fiction - something that could happen, but didn’t!
  • All About book
  • Fantasy story
  • Story of your life

Poems, Poems, Poems!

Write -ing poems, or ones that rhyme (Like Couplets)! Or, how about 5-Senses poems, or Acrostic? Or, Free Verse which means you write it any way you want to!!

Complete the Tower Challenge: Can you figure out ways to keep a building from falling down in an earthquake? Build a tower out of paper. You can fold, twist, or tear the paper — whatever you need to make it stand tall. Place your tower on a plate and shake it back and forth. Does your tower fall? If it does, what could you do to help it stay up? Try again and see if it stays upright this time!
