Learning Paths: We recognizes the complex literacy and math skills required for success in middle school and in life, so we offer various choices of learning paths in these subjects with specific HCS approved curriculum to support the learning model. The Learning models or Paths have been developed specifically to support ELA and MATH and include: Alternative Home Study (AHS), Supported Home Study (SHS), Blended Learning (BL) and On Demand Learning (ODL). We recommend cHCS approved urriculum for Science, History Social Studies, Gifted Talented & High Achieving, and Support & Interventions.
Although we provide a foundation to help ensure our students develop important academic literacy and math skills, our program assumes that each family will build upon our foundation. We encourage families to provide additional enrichment activities, supplementary learning opportunities, and engaging experiences. Horizon provides social opportunities throughout the year to support socialization and emotional development.
Additionally, Horizon Teachers provide daily synchronous, live lessons, interactions and small group instruction as needed. All students are provided the iReady Diagnostic Assessment to monitor growth over time and the iXL platform to support each student’s developmental needs in ELA and Math. All students complete the Strengths Assessment and the Hope Index with the Thrively platform which houses loads of resources for Teachers and families to support student wellness. Teachers monitor student progress, participation and proficiency each week. Teachers also provide students with HCS approved grade level resources and learning targets to support families with pacing. Teachers will monitor student learning throughout the year. Teachers provide each students Google Classroom to collect student work and provide feedback regarding student progress. The following slides will clarify the options designed for our diverse student needs.
