GT Courses

• If you are currently being screened for GT, sign up for KAP when you enter your courses, it should automatically put you in GT if you are currently GT
• Only mark a GT course if you are currently in it. If you’re not sure, ask your teacher
• GT testing takes place each year in the fall for students who apply

Math

Academic vs KAP

• Academic = grade level math
• 6th grade math KAP = ALL of 6th grade math and 1/2 of 7th grade
• KAP moves faster than academic math
• Attending before or after school tutorials is encouraged to provide you with additional opportunities to practice what your teacher has taught

Reading/

Language Arts

Reading and English are blocked together in 6th and 7th- meaning you will have the same teacher for 2 class periods in a row

PE is REQUIRED

• 6th, 7th & 8th graders attend PE every day
• Students wear a Katy ISD issued uniform for PE
• Uniform includes a shirt and shorts
• Students bring their own athletic shoes and socks - a locker is provided for you
• Equipment fee covers washing your uniform at school weekly

Pre-Athletics

• Indicate your interest for pre-athletics on your course selection sheet.

• Pre-Athletics will be more demanding, but coaches will be supportive in helping you prepare for a team next year.

Want to play a sport in 7th grade?

If you have interest in playing a sport in junior high join pre-athletics. (Note - It is not required to try out for a sport)

Athletics

• Athletics and UIL competition begin in 7th grade and continues into 8th grade

• Sports offered include: football, volleyball, basketball, track and field, tennis, soccer and cross country

​

• Girls must have an evaluation for placement into the athletic class period, it is coach approval

Off Campus PE

• If you participate in an approved individual sport for a minimum of 5 hours a week, you will receive Study hall as your replacement class
• If you participate in an approved individual sport for 15 or more hours a week you may leave campus after 7th period. These students will sign themselves out daily at the attendance window
• You MUST pick PE on your course selection sheet. Applications for OCPE will begin in August 2025 and your parents can complete an interest form before completing the application

Off Campus PE

• Completed Off Campus PE waiver forms will be accepted beginning the first week in August through the first few weeks of school.

Clubs and Activities

There are many before and after school activities to join:

• Clubs - examples - history, math
• Athletic events
• Fine arts events
• School wide events like pep rallies
• Fun Food Fridays

Clubs

Anyone can start a club as long as you find a teacher that is willing to host the club before or after school. Once you have a teacher, you will get a form from the school to fill out and be approved.

• You will use the course selection sheet as a guide, but you will need to turn it back into your teacher when you are done entering your courses in to SchooLinks (online platform)

• 1 social studies course
• 1 PE/pre-athletics
