The OpenLab at City Tech: Teaching, Learning, Collaboration

openlab.citytech.cuny.edu - an open platform that everyone at the college can use

In 2010, the college won a major grant from the US Dept of Education that enabled us to create an open digital platform for the City Tech community called the OpenLab
It’s built using WordPress Multisite with BuddyPress for social networking
Everyone at City Tech can use it - students, faculty, staff, and alumni
It’s been enormously successful - since its launch in 2011, the OpenLab has served almost 38,000 members
Hundreds of courses use the OpenLab each semester, along with student clubs, portfolios, and projects of all kinds
Its goals are not only to support teaching and learning but also to help people make connections across the college - something that’s specially challenging at underserved urban commuter campuses such as ours, where students, faculty, and staff have so many demands on their time
