At Refleq, we believe that competencies become meaningful and actionable when embedded in the learning moment, and directly alongside subject teaching.
I have places where I make a claim and don't really support it with any evidence or I have evidence but don't really connect it directly to what I'm trying to argue. I often assume that the reader is always thinking the same way that I am, which can get me into trouble sometimes. I’m reading about how Isis has been looting and destroying historical sites to help fund their expansion and erase history. Hearing that they are destroying artifacts enrages me even more. However, I don't believe that this is a topic where I can "explore alternate points of view". What Isis is doing is wrong and must be stopped. I know that I want to be a lawyer when I grow up, but if I do poorly in the trial, will that mean that maybe I am not cut out for this profession? I am also nervous that people will expect me to do well since I like debate and want to be a lawyer, and I really want to do well since this means so much to me. I don’t really know what we will be discussing in court, but I hope that I’m on a side that I agree with. I know from experience that it is very hard to fight for something that you don’t believe in.
