Arrival/Dismissal Protocol

• Arrival

​

• Student arrival time is 8:00am. They will not be allowed to enter the building prior to 8am.

​

• Car riders drop-off is at the Gym entrance.

​

• Bus rider drop off is at the front entrance of the school.

​

• Upon arrival, students eating breakfast will go to the cafeteria.

​

• Students are released to their classroom at 8:25am.

​

• Dismissal

​

• School ends at 4:20pm

​

• Car riders pick-up is at the Gym level.

​

• Bus Riders will exit at the upper level, front of school.

​

• Parent Early Pick-up ends at 4pm

​

• Students are not allowed to return to the building unless accompanied by staff.

​

Bus Expectations

• Riding the bus is a privilege. You must follow the rules for your safety and the safety of others. We would not like to have to remove you from the bus. These rules are made in the interest of safety of all students and drivers using the buses.

​

• Bus Discipline Management

​

• 1^st Referral-Warning
• 2^nd Referral-5 days loss of bus privileges
• 3^rd Referral-10 days loss of bus privileges
• 4^th Referral- Termination of bus privileges until end of semester or year.

​

Attendance

• Attendance is taken and credit received for each class period.  If a student is 10 minutes late to a class, without a pass, they are marked absent for the period.  Likewise, signing a student out early will affect their period attendance.  State law requires a student to be in attendance 90% of the school days to receive credit for the course.  Please make sure your student arrives on time at the beginning of the school day and is in each class before the bell rings.  
• If your student(s) are absent please contact the Attendance Office and when your student(s) returns to school please send your child with a note to be given to the Attendance/PEIMS clerk (Ms. Hogg) within 5 days of the absence.

Dress Code Policy

Student Conduct and Responsibility

• Attend all classes daily and on time.
• Be prepared for each class with materials and assignments
• Be well groomed and dressed appropriately.
• Students must wear identification badges (at all times) and identify themselves to All DeSoto ISD employees and School Resource Officer when requested. Replacement ID will result in fees and/or detention.
• Student may not disrupt the learning environment, which includes the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, etc. Violations will result in consequences.

Electronic Devices

Cell Phone usage during the school day is a violation of district and campus rules.

​

• DeSoto West's cell phone and electronic device policy is as follows:  All devices are to be used for assignments required by the teacher.  Cell phone and electronic devices are not allowed to be in use otherwise.  The following consequences will occur for devices that are confiscated on campus: 
• 1st Offense: Phone confiscated, submitted to the main office, and returned to student at dismissal. 
• 2nd Offense: Phone confiscated, submitted to the main office, parent required to collect phone from office. 
• 3rd Offense: Phone confiscated, submitted to the main office, $15.00 fee for phone to be returned and picked up by parent or guardian. If the student continues to not comply with the campus expectations for electronic device after the 3rd offense,  a $15.00 fee will  occur each time to have device returned to student or parent. 
• Electronic communication devices include but are not limited to the following:  cell phones, smart phones, mp3 players, iPod's, iPads and eReaders.  Students bring electronic communication devices to school at their own risk.  The district will not be held responsible if a phone or other item is lost, stolen, or misplaced, including those that have been confiscated.  
• Students may utilize electronic communication devices in the classroom for educational purposes when the teacher deems appropriate. Students will be allowed the opportunity to use their devices before/after school  �
