Typical days will look like this:

Logistics - Tracking Progress

Each week we will be keeping track of how well you are doing in the program, this is a tool to help us make sure everyone is getting the most out of this educational experience. We will be tracking:

  • Attendance
  • Class Participation
  • Citizenship
  • Assignment Completion

Logistics - Tracking Progress

For each of these categories there is a color-coded marking for that day:�Green - Present, Active participant, upholding MEET values, completed assignments�

Yellow - Missed a portion of class, sometimes participating, room for improvement with MEET values, partially complete assignment (may require re-submission or tutoring)�

Red - Absent, completely unengaged, showing total disregard for MEET values, unsubmitted/blank assignment�

Please don’t get any red marks.

Logistics - Missing Days

If you have to miss a day from the program, please let us know as early as possible. You will be expected to complete the assignments in office hours or on your own to absolve you from any red marks for that day.

Logistics - Office Hours

Open Hub days are Tuesdays in Jerusalem and Wednesdays in Nazareth. I will try to be there anyway for most of these events but please let me know beforehand if you will need tutoring from myself or the TA’s so we can plan accordingly.

The Y3 Incubator - Vision

“Challenge the current reality in the middle east by showcasing examples of healthy egalitarian bi-national entrepreneurial ventures carried out by MEET students.”

This means that as Y3 students you will be creating real companies with real customers making real impact among your local communities. And the entire staff will be here cheering for you along the way. ��egalitarian (adj) - relating to or believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities.���

The Y3 Incubator - Milestones to Graduation

Launch Party - At the end of the first week of Y3 your companies will be up and running, and visible to the outside world.

Networking Night - We are planning an evening where you will meet with several local entrepreneurs, get feedback, and make connections for improving your business��Version 2.0 Release - After getting customer feedback, you will incorporate enhancements to your product for a secondary release. ��Investor Meeting - An event where you will pitch your startup to investors and discuss plans for fundraising and growth. ��Graduation - Celebration for three years of hard work and acknowledgement of the acquired skills graduates have attained to create positive impact in the Middle East.�

  • research and case studies delving deeper into local issues
  • ideation to help come up with solutions to these issues
  • team building and cross-cultural communication�

  • independent project showcasing CS and project management skills
  • 3 sessions of class time
  • Open-Ended theme meeting the requirements of a rubric

Milestones to Y3 - Pitch Deck & MVP

  • groups of 3 will work to create a pitch deck for a startup idea
  • At the end of the program you will pitch to a panel of entrepreneurs
  • Selected pitches will be chosen by the panel to be funded in the Y3 incubator
  • Larger teams will be formed to convert these pitch ideas into startups�

Tips for Success - Communication

  • If something isn’t working for you, let it be known
  • Use slack to facilitate group chats and to stay up-to-date on last minute updates
  • If you need help or want extra practice, I’m happy to help!�

Tips for Success - Stay in the Learning Zone

  • If you are in your comfort zone, push yourself to learn more
  • If you are in the panic zone, please take a deep breath, come back to your comfort zone, get help, re-evaluate, and try again.

Tips for Success - Creativity

  • This yearlong will be very demanding of your creativity as well as your academic rigor
  • Inspiration can come at any time, pay close attention to the things and people around you for ideas.
  • A tired mind is not as creative, make sure you rest and eat wholesome meals every day (especially breakfast).
  • Write stuff down

Tips for Success - Research and Independent Study

  • Sometimes you will have to go out and explore things on your own instead of being told explicitly what you need to learn
  • Don’t wait to be fed a solution, go out and research it on your own
  • Track your progress and share your findings with others

Tips for Success - Critical Thinking and Decision Making

  • Try to understand topics on a deep level.
  • The “because this is the way we’ve always done it” mentality will not get you far.
  • Be aware of the things that influence your decision making process (peer pressure, energy, boredom, etc.) and try to minimize negative influences.

  • Transparency & team organization is crucial for a successful academic year.
  • Try not to become too attached to ideas or individual roles but moreso on what you can do for the greater good of the team.

  • Ebooks, videos, tutoring, and chat rooms will all be great resources for you to use to accomplish your desired tasks
  • More resources can always be found upon request
