Compounds Sentence

  • A compound sentence contains TWO simple sentences joined by a comma and a conjunction, such as and, but, or or
  • Examples:
    • I rode my bike to Dan’s house, and we rode to the park.

Complex Sentence

  • A complex sentence contains an independent clause and a dependent clause.
    • An independent clause can stand alone and a dependent clause cannot stand alone.
  • The clauses are joined together by a word such as if, when, because, until, before, after, or since
