Choice A:

“FS: Newspapers”

- In Why use Newspapers review the bullet list for reasons to use newspapers in research.

- In What Can You Find in Newspapers briefly review the bullet list, emphasizing the terms in bold.

“AAC: Why Use Newspapers?”

- Watch the entire video, pausing and commenting as necessary.

“AAC: Newspapers”

- Watch the video from the start to 3:32, pausing and commenting as necessary.

“14 Newspaper Sections”

- Scroll down to the numbered items.

- Briefly review each of the 14 items and discuss how each section might provide genealogical clues or information.

“Newspaper Search Tricks“

- Watch the video from 2:37 to 8:14; pause and comment as needed. Topic chapters are displayed at the right of the YouTube video.

Choice B:

“Chronicling America” link

- Open the Chronicling America link so it can be displayed as the next article highlights how to use it.

“TH: Chronicling America …”

- With the Chronicling America site open, in the TH Chronicling America article scroll down to What Is Available … Briefly review each of the four numbered items. You can do a sample search or browse links in each of these categories.

- For #1, note that the digitized newspapers now cover 1770 to 1963. For #2, also explain that the 1690 to Present listing gives information about newspaper companies but does not provide digitized images.

- In Tips for Finding … briefly show the search parameters on the Chronicling America site, as explained in the article. Doing actual searches is optional.

- In Use Period Search Terms look for the italicized phrases in the paragraph and explain how to deal with them in doing searches on the site.

- Open “AC: Newspaper Announcements, 1851-2003.”

- In the search fields, type “Solomon” for the first name and “Powell” for the last name.
