Theme: Power
1st Principle: The inherent worth and dignity of every person;

OPENING
(Chris)
If just for this hour
by Martha Kirby Capo
In this hour may we be open
To a rededication of treasured friendships,
a renewal of spirit;
May we relinquish the worries
and anxieties of the past week,
if just for this hour,
and regain our strength
Through this community of faith.
(Chris)
May the flame burn true and high and strong
by Rev. Beatrice Hitchcock
The flaming chalice is the symbol of Unitarian Universalism.
It is an everlasting flame for this community.
It offers its warmth to those who are cold.
It provides light to those who would see.
It purifies and transforms this sanctuary into sacred space,
this congregation into sacred community.
May its flame burn true and high and strong.
JOYS AND CONCERNS
(Chris and Zoom Mgr)
Share a joy or concern with the congregation.
Raise Hand your hand in Zoom then wait to be recognized.
JOYS AND CONCERNS
(Chris and all)
For the joys shared,
we join you in celebration.
For the sorrows and concerns spoken here, may you feel our sympathy and compassion.
For all that remains unspoken, both joy and sorrow, may the caring of our community offer you both kindness and hope.
While You Can (Jana Stanfield)
(Scott)
Don't give up your dance
Though some say you can't
Dance all you can
While you can
Don't give up your song
Though your notes come out wrong
Sing all you can
While you can
Life goes so fast
Like sand through the glass
It soon slips away
You've got this moment
The world is wide open
It's yours for today
Don't give up your smile
Laugh like a child
Laugh all you can
While you can
While you can
While you can
While you can
Life goes so fast
Like sand through the glass
It soon slips away
You've got this moment
The world is wide open
It's yours for today
Don't give up your dreams
No matter how hard it seems
Dream all you can
While you can
Dance all you can
Sing all you can
While you can
Reading
At this quiet time
by Rev. Edward Atkinson
(Jackie)
At this quiet time and in this place of worship
we would seek to know more deeply
what it means to love one another.
We know so well our own needs.
We know that we, ourselves need
understanding, affection and recognition.
Why is it then that so often we hesitate
to extend these precious gifts to others?
The cost of a kind word is small.
The moment that it takes to listen
could hardly be better used.
A gesture of forgiveness can mark a new beginning.
An embrace or a note of appreciation
can convey crucial encouragement and comfort.
And yet,
so often we fail even within our own families
to live by the sacred command
that we should love one another.
Responsive Reading #594 Principles and Purposes for All of Us (adapted by Doug Muder)
(Chris and all)
I came to view the Principles as vision statements: They describe not the world that is, but the world that we are working together to bring into existence. So as we do this reading, I invite you to try on that interpretation: We’re not stating facts, we’re not just having opinions; we’re sharing a vision of the world we want to make.
We affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
We believe that each and every person is important.
We affirm and promote justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.
We believe that all people should be treated fairly.
We affirm and promote acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth.
We believe that our churches are places where all people are accepted, and where we keep on learning together.
We affirm and promote a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
We believe that each person must be free to search for what is true and right in life.
We affirm and promote the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process.
We believe that all people should have a voice and a vote about the things which concern them.
We affirm and promote the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
We believe that we should work for a peaceful, fair, and free world.
We affirm and promote respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
We believe that we should care for our planet earth.
What would I do, if I knew that I could not fail?
If I believed, would the wind always fill up my sail?
How far would I go? What could I achieve,
Trusting the hero in me?
If I were brave, I'd walk the razor's edge,
Where true believers dare to tread.
I'd never lose faith, even when losing my way.
What step would I take, today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What if we're all meant to do what we secretly dream?
What would you ask, if you knew you could have anything?
Like the mighty oak sleeps, in the heart of a seed,
Are there miracles in you and me?
If I were brave, I'd walk the razor's edge,
Where true believers dare to tread.
I'd never lose faith, even when losing my way.
What step would I take, today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
What would I do today, if I were brave?
If I refuse to listen, to the voice of fear
Would the voice of courage, whisper in my ear?
If I were brave, I'd walk the razor's edge,
Where true believers dare to tread.
I'd never lose faith, even when losing my way.
What step would I take, today, if I were brave?

Breath Meditation
By Samuel A Trumbore
Let us turn inward now
Feel the rhythm of the breath.
In and out, In and out,
Find the peace of just being with the flow of the breath.
Letting go of yesterday and tomorrow.
Feel the restorative power of the peace of this moment.
A peace, large enough to open
to the concerns and sorrows that trouble us.
A stillness, quiet enough to respond
to the joys and celebrations that enliven us.
There is safety here in the rhythm of the breath.

It Had to be You

It Becomes More
by Rev. Amy Zucker Morgenstern
When we take fire from our chalice, it does not become less.
It becomes more.
And so we extinguish our chalice,
but we take its light and warmth with us,
multiplying their power by all of our lives,
and sharing it with the world.

#159 THIS IS MY SONG (revised)
(Bill)
This is my song, o people of all nations
A song of peace, for lands a-far and mine
This is my home, the country where my heart is
Here are my hopes, and dreams my holy shrine
But other hearts, in other lands are beating
With hopes and dreams,
as true and high as mine.
CLOSING WORDS
(Mary)
Go in peace. Live simply
by Rev. Mark Belletini
Go in peace.
Live simply, at home in yourself.
Be just in your word,
just in deed.
Remember the depth of your own compassion.
Do not forget your power
in the days of your powerlessness.
CLOSING
Go In Peace!
