How do I install Read and Write for Google Chrome?

If you do not have the purple puzzle piece in your top

extensions toolbar then you need to add it yourself.

Teachers go to this link in the Chrome Web Store to install

or if you see this symbol in your extensions toolbar you

may need to re-enable the extension -click on the symbol in your

toolbar and follow the directions that appear.

Talk and Type

  • This tool will translate spoken words into text for users on Google docs or Slides.

Tip: Using a headset with a mic can help trim out any background noise while speaking.

Voice Note

  • This tool records a one minute or less voice memo and inserts it into Google Doc as a comment.
  • This great for providing students with feedback on their assignment in Google Classroom.

Audio Maker

  • This tool takes highlighted text and creates an audio recording of it.
  • This great for providing students with reading support while learning new, lengthy, or challenging material.
  • Once the audio file is created, it will be stored in your downloads. You will need to make sure that you save it to your Google Drive.

  • This tool will highlight text on a document, website ect. To direct students attention.
  • The tool will also extract highlighted text into a new Google Doc.
  • Lists of key ideas can be made using the collect highlights tool.
  • The vocabulary lists too can be used to extract and define key words.
