It took us about 100 projects and 6 years to get there

Stage 1: The Beginning

Working with small and medium nonprofits, implementing NPSP. Our first project, implemented a local shelter for women and children. They needed to centralize intake and track volunteers efficiently.

Moving from paper and post its to digital was revolutionary.

Stage 2: Tshirt Size example. We didn't think much about technical debt or using out-of-the-box solutions. Salesforce gave us the freedom to personalize, and we loved creating fields and objects. It was satisfying and made us feel like creators, like artists.

Stage 3: realizing custom isn’t always good.

Org with so much technical debt (max fields on opportunity) needed to scrap org bcause things were so deep

Shift from NPSP

NPSP was revolutionary, but NPC is the future

History:

NPSP was community-driven, open-source, and relied on by nonprofits for nearly two decades.
Nonprofits were brought "in-house" as part of Salesforce’s Industry Solutions.
Now treated as a core vertical (like healthcare, public sector, etc.), not a community-led project.

Two Camps Emerge:

NPSP Loyalists: Frustrated by the shift—many invested heavily in NPSP and feel the "VIP status" is gone.

The idea is there is a lot of drama regarding NPSP vs NPC. Salesforce has flops on releasing things and then pulling it; ex: Elevate.
Old is good; like an old 1999 Camry; you know how to fix everything.
Example: Una Buro built its business around NPSP; sudden change creates uncertainty.
No official sunset date, but lack of future investment raises concerns.

Community is questioning when SF releases things.
NPC Early Adopters (like us): Believe being on the core platform is better long-term.

If NPSP is Toyota, NPC is a Lexus.
Salesforce’s dedicated team = faster innovation & integration with other industries.
NPC is catching up quickly—some features already surpass NPSP.

Why We’re All-In on NPC:

Built-in modules cover most nonprofit needs, even if every org is unique.
Benefits from cross-industry innovation (e.g., healthcare, public sector tech).
Future-proof: Salesforce is investing heavily—NPC is where the momentum is.
