Assembly Bill 130 Independent Study

  • July 9th CA Legislature approved Assembly Bill 130 to address an expanded independent study option for the 2021-2022 school year only.

  • AB130 Independent Study IS NOT Distance Learning

  • Only for those students whose health would be put at risk by in person instruction

  • Charter Schools are not required to offer AB130 Independent Study

  • However to provide our students with an alterative educational program option we will make both SHORT and LONG Independent Study available for students

Independent Study Offerings 2021-2022

Traditional Independent Study: e.g. Travel related absences

SHORT Term AB130: less than 15 days aka Quarantine Absences

LONG Term AB130: more than 15 days for students whose health would be put at risk by in person instruction

AB130 Short Term

1. Teacher provides assignments based on State Adopted content standards on a weekly basis

2. Daily ‘check in’ (live interaction) with teacher and/or IA via zoom or call.

3. School receives ADA when the assignments are turned in to school on a weekly basis

AB 130: Long Term

  1. Independent Assignments sent home with student on a weekly basis.
  2. Daily ‘check in’ (live interaction) with teacher and/or IA via zoom or call.
  3. Combination of synchronous instruction, telephonic communication
  4. Assignments are sent to school on a weekly basis.
  5. Every two weeks, meet with the team to determine student’s academic progress
