Public experiment for a remote leadership & team-building game, I'm calling - Work Avatar!

Premise: Remote work is effectively a video game where it becomes hard for managers & leaders to understand the working style of other people because of the lack of nonverbal behavioral observation.

While I love remote work because it provides opportunities to talent globally, as a leader, I can sometimes struggle with it.

I’ve been doing remote for 5 years now and while I pride myself with good judgment when it comes to people, the lack of nonverbal interactions with remote work also diminishes my ability to build the right mental model of someone quickly.

These slight errors in judgment can be extremely costly to a leader, manager, and collaborator.

Experiment: Ask my team members to create art that best captures their avatar at the workplace (assuming the workplace was an MMORPG)

2 of 14

Task

1. Create Midjourney Art that represents your work avatar for your work or leadership style (i.e a healer monk, a tank that heals, a silent assassin, etc)

2. Feed the art to Chat GPT for Chat GPT to create a unique dungeons and dragons class

3 of 14

3. Create a simulation where Chat GPT operates as the Dungeon master and the entire team has to problem-solve challenging (almost impossible) scenarios designed for their team.

These scenarios could mirror a scenario at work or just a scenario designed by Gen AI to be extremely challenging for the group based on their unique set of skills.

4 of 14

Hypothesis around results

1. I will get insight as a manager on how to coach the individual on how to improve their own style towards their actual role at work (product, design, analyst, etc)

2. I will spot the weaknesses of the team quickly (can't have a team of 3 where everyone thinks of themselves as a support healer)

3. I can coach them through problem-solving as a team through fun simulations -- enabling us to use the shared language & experience around tactics and strategies employed during a simulation at work

Downside to running this experiment

1. We mess around for 3 hours while building better camaraderie as a team.

Infernal Blade(Scythe, Staff, Flag)Rare (requires attunement by a Warlock or SorcererProperties

  • Versatile Transformation: As a bonus action, the wielder can transform the Infernal Blade into the form of a scythe, a staff, or a flag. • Scythe: The blade elongates and curves into a wickedly sharp scythe, suitable for grim reaping.
    • Staff: The blade retracts into a slender, ominous staff that pulses with dark energy.
    • Flag: The blade morphs into a dark banner, embroidered with infernal symbols and shadowy patterns, fluttering in an unseen wind.
  • +1 Weapon: The Infernal Blade grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
