What is Building and Construction Workforce Sector and Impact on SD County?

Building and Construction
The United States is not only one of the world’s leading suppliers of energy, it is also one of its largest consumers. Firms in this sector need people who can work with their heads and hands to design and build office buildings, hospitals, shopping malls, and housing communities. Once architects come up with a design, it takes a team of skilled people such as plumbers, electricians, masons, roofers, framers and more to turn it into a finished structure. Craftsmen in this industry sector need a strong math background, good technology skills, and solid on-the-job experience.
Typical Skills: Plan, direct, or coordinate, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. Participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation. Includes managers in specialized construction fields, such as carpentry or plumbing.
Also known as:
Concrete Foreman, Construction Area Manager, Construction Foreman, Construction Manager, Construction Services Manager, Construction Superintendent, Job Superintendent

ENERGY and CONSTRUCTION
The United States is not only one of the world’s leading suppliers of energy, it is also one of its largest consumers. With the increase of public and governmental interest in renewable energy, clean energy generation, and energy efficiency, job opportunities are growing rapidly, especially with the existing workforce expected to retire in the upcoming years.
2023 USEER shows that the energy workforce added almost 300,000 jobs from 2021 to 2022 (+3.8% growth), outpacing the growth rate of the overall U.S. workforce, which grew by 3.1%.
Clean energy jobs increased in every state and grew 3.9% nationally.
