At this point in the training please have everyone click on the Staff Portal Link which will open a new tab on their web browser containing the Illuminate Staff Portal Login.

*Any login issues should have been taken care of by participants prior to training. If they do not have access they may email help.desk@twinriversusd.org and look on with a friend.

Please explain at this point we will work in Illuminate itself. The presenter will demonstrate the following and then have participants try and explore. Click topic on this slide links out to the corresponding PDF walkthrough.

Dashboard

The main home screen is called the dashboard. You can always get back the dashboard by clicking “Dashboard” on the top right of the screen next to the Control Panel.

Widgets

Explain: Widgets" are the mini-reports with gray bar titles that populate your dashboard. You can move, add, and delete them. A lot of widgets will have PDF or EXCEL buttons toward the top that allow for a quick export. Add more Widgets by clicking Add Widgets.

-allow time to “play around with the widgets” (5mins)

Control Panel

-Click on the Control Panel.

-Explain that this is where you can see what site you are logged into, which academic year you are viewing, change your password, logout, or access our help documents.

-If you have student groups (we will cover shortly) created this is also where you can change your visibility to see those students by selecting the group.

-From the Control Panel, click on the Lessons and Video link.

-Click on Data and Assessment (DnA).

-Explain the help documents have everything relating to how to build, create, or do things in Illuminate. Click on the Assessment link and show the different lessons we have within a manual. Let the teachers follow with you.

-Let the teachers find different items in the help system. Give them time to explore so they become familiar with the help system. Show them how to download and print the PDF on the right hand side of each lesson.

-The "EXTRAS - Cool Things to Do" is a great place to look at ideas other districts have shared.

Student List

- Click on Students → Student List

- This should display your rostered students

- Explain you can narrow down the list by changing the filter settings

- Clicking on the blue student ID number to bring up the Student Profile

- Give users a chance to pull up the Student Profile for 2-3 students.

Student Profile

- Explain that like the Dashboard, the Student Profile is made up of widgets that can be added/removed, minimized or renamed.

- Let the users rearrange their widgets to display the information as they want for each child. What they do for one child will be done for all student's profiles.

- Point out the ability to delete widgets, change the title of the widget, and collapse the widget.

- Explain that each widget can be printed by clicking on the PDF icon located within each widget. However, if the entire profile is to be printed, scroll to the top of the page and you will see the PDF or Print option. If a user wants to print their entire class, they can use the prebuilt report called Student Profile.

Student Groups

-Teachers have the ability to create custom students groups out of the students they have access to. This may be great for classroom reading groups, shared students etc. Any report you can pull in Illuminate can then be narrowed down to a created group.

-Click Students → Student Groups

-Explain how to add students and have participants create a group or two.

SBAC Data

Have participants locate and view the 3 SBAC reports in the Favorites Widget on the Dashboard. Inform participants that these reports are covered in more detail in other classes.

Finding Assessments

Click Assessments → List Assessments. Explain the use of a filter to find different assessments. Have everyone located the fake assessment titled, “District Benchmark.” You can find the assessment by selecting year: 2015-16, Grade: any grade level and Scope: district benchmark in the filter.

District Benchmarks

Please show all the steps required to give the district benchmark. The presenter and participants may use an assessment titled “Benchmark Practice” to practice creating a testing roster/window. You can find the assessment by selecting 2015-16, any grade level and district benchmark in the filter. Please inform participants it is the exact same steps to give any Illuminate assessment online.
