Emergencies

• Emergency: an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate action (Merriam Webster Dictionary)
• Emergencies need to be dealt with right away
• Any delay in an emergency can cause devastating and undesirable outcomes
• Emergency services play a crucial role in global health. A matter of life and death on how quickly you get to medical services. In the developing world, where there are rural areas/or dense areas of traffic, emergency medical care is inadequate or nonexistent. Deaths from life threatening illnesses and injuries often result from delayed medical treatment. It should be human right to get an urgent medical response in a time of need.

Real Life Problem Scenarios

1. On a snowy day, traffic tends to get busy in the city. In case of an emergency, an ambulance usually gets stuck in traffic and loses minutes in saving someone else’s life. In these scenarios, every second counts into saving someone else’s life. Also, how would the doctor know when the ambulance will be returning back to the hospital with the patient in order to start treatment right away?
2. In developed countries, most of the time emergency medical services are readily available. However, in rural countries, it is much more difficult for an ambulance to reach a patient because roads may not be established. It makes the job of the paramedics much more difficult to locate the patient in an area with no address (ex.forest, fields)

Our Solution

• Emergency GPS Tracker
• This is an app
• that will calculate the fastest and uncluttered route for an ambulance take to patient’s location, and back to hospital (city uses)
• that will return the coordinates of patient in latitude and longitude so an ambulance can exactly find the location of the patient’s cellphone in a rural/wilderness area
• that will notify doctors the exact location of the ambulance so that they can prepare the necessary equipment/rooms to treat the patient as soon as they arrive to the hospital

Benefits

• No time will be wasted in saving someone’s life
• It makes the job of the ambulance driver less stressful
• Creates a better coordination between the paramedics and doctors

Current Prototype

• Returns the Ambulance Location in Latitude and Longitude
• Sends the hospital a message of the Ambulance’s location
• Returns the shortest route between the patient’s location and ambulance location

Future Prototypes

• Return an estimate time for arrival of ambulance with patient to the hospital
• Improve ambulance’s route by first taking highways, roads, and then off road
• Create an area on the app where a doctor can give medical advice to the patient to help with treatment as the ambulance is on the way
