What do meetings look like ?

The leadership team meets every Monday at lunchtime and we discuss about new ideas and plan events together. We have minutes and notes taken every meeting and we split into groups to work on different projects together. We have a social media (Instagram) page @turramurra_leadership which is updated on a weekly basis.

What we are working on - Power Chair Football World Cup

What is it ? Australia will be hosting the Powerchair football world cup. Powerchair Football, also known as Power Soccer, is a variant of association football for people with physical disabilities.

Why we are doing this? We want our school to support our country in the world cup and spread and raise awareness about this sport, supporting people with disabilities to achieve their dreams and be treated equally.

When is it planned? The tournament will be held from SUNDAY 15 OCTOBER TO FRIDAY 20 OCTOBER and we are trying to plan for one day where group of students from Turramurra High School go to support Australia.

  • Inviting Turramurra Public School children to teach them about NAIDOC week
  • Possibly a performance (we are currently in the process of finding a group)

Future - Diwali

Diwali is an Indian festival of lights that we would like to celebrate in our school for the first time. Diwali this year will be in the month of November, so we have plenty of time to plan.

Some ideas

  • Decorating our school gates with solar lights so at night time our school is bright
  • Diya making during MANA
  • Some indian food and music

Future - Christmas

Every year we have done the Christmas Tree of Care with Hornsby Connect and The Salvation Army.

If we are able to put up lights for Diwali we could further decorate our school with Christmas themed lights as well to make our school stand out and get the neighboring community involved in having a look at our beautiful school.

Future - Return And Earn

A future plan that we have been working on to launch soon is a Return and Earn program in the school. If this program were to be successful, we would be one step closer to solving a recycling problem in our school for good. Establishing Return and Earn facilities inside our school will make recycling at school easy and we can get money from it that would go towards another future project. This system would be more of a long term solution than instant short term impact.

Future - Beautification Group

We aim to create a strong school identity and improve the wellbeing of students and staff at Turramurra High School. Our idea for this project is to have a painted mural in the walkway between the basketball courts sitting area, and the amphitheatre, in which students and staff would be able to be immersed into the school.

Jasmine Sarin - https://jskooridesigns.com.au/

Jasmine Sarin is a First Nations artist and graphic designer. She has worked with schools before and aims to deliver quality and meaningful First Nations creative art projects. We are currently in the process of discussing designs for the mural with Jasmine.

Danielle Mate - https://www.daniellemate.com.au/

Danielle is a Sydney based First Nations artist, working in large-scale mural design and public art.

Some Contacted Artists

Future - Beautification Group

We discussed the colour palette with Kathy Kim. The first artist we contacted was Hugues Sineux, a classically trained French artist and muralist based in Sydney, Australia with over 25 years experience in mural painting. We have one of the final designs for more colour in the school. This design is for between A and E block in the walkway.

Future - Changerooms and Grandstand

Goal - To have a grandstand and change room built on the bottom oval.

BENEFITS

  • Students will be able to comfortably view school games (e.g. the knockout games and teachers vs students).
  • Students can cheer on others when we have in school matches like knockout games instead of everyone sitting on the stairs.
  • House pride could flourish as now there would be room for people, and even lead to an increase in house vs house games.
  • Having changing rooms at the bottom oval would make physical education easier for staff as now they can head directly to the bottom oval and not have to stress about sport time being decreased.
  • Overall aesthetics of the school would also increase, leading to more school pride.
