Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans. In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.
What is a Coronavirus?

COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. COVID-19 is now a pandemic affecting many countries globally.�

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
How does COVID-19 spread?
Between people who are in close contact with one another.

Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks.

Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, sore throat or diarrhea.

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority.
Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others.
How can we protect others and ourselves if we don't know who is infected?

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place

Practicing hand and respiratory hygiene is important at ALL times and is the best way to protect others and yourself.

The use of face masks in public may serve as a means of source control to reduce the spread of the infection in the community.

Wearing a mask is unlikely to be of any benefit if you are not sick. If you do need to wear a mask, here is how to use one properly.
