Materials: solutions; 1 set tangram per team

Directions:

  • Teacher will provide the solution or the speaking teammate will find solution but cannot let their other teammate see the solution
  • One teammate speaks while the other one lay the tangram that was spoken
  • The speaker must put their hands behind their back.

Result: The team who completes the most tangrams within the allotted time wins

Create a short conversation

Time: 15 minutes

Members: Teams of 2-3

Materials: 2-3 sets of tangrams

Directions:

  • Create the short story conversation with tangrams.
  • Must use all 7 pieces, the pieces must lay flat, each piece must touch at least 1 other piece and no pieces may overlap.
  • Make a conversation with the object which group induvial created.
  • 2 person groups need to have 3 exchanges.
  • 3 person groups need to have 2 exchanges.

Team work

Time: 10 minutes

Members: Teams of 4-5

Materials: 2 sets of tangrams

Directions:

  • 2 groups
  • Select one person from each group
  • Teacher will give out the shape of the object.
  • Each team will take turns describing what to do to complete the solution.
  • Everyone has 30 seconds.

Result: The team who complete the most solutions wins

Directions:

  • 2 groups
  • Everyone will be given a Post-It note
  • Individuals will follow the link or use the tangram to solve the problem
  • When problem is solved, each individual will mark on their Post-It note
  • Collect the Post-It notes at the end of the session

Result:

Calculate the marks from each group with most mark wins

Materials: 2 sets of paper tangrams

Directions:

  • 2 groups
  • Teacher will provide 2 sets of paper or magnet tangrams to put on the whiteboard.
  • Teacher gives the different shape of objects on the board
  • Students will take turns describing the shape of the tangram using accurate color, size, adjectives, prepositions
  • If a person provides an incorrect answer, their teammate will start from beginning and continue until the description leads to a correct answer
  • The last person need to complete the whole description to describe the solution.

Result:

The team with the fewest errors wins

Answer the questions

Time: 15 minutes

Members: Teams of 2-3

Materials: 1 set of tangram

Directions:

  • Teacher will provide the same shape of the tangram to each team
  • Teams will answer trivia/questions in class
  • Teams who answer correctly, will have a 30 sec. solve the tangram
  • If there are some solution on the board, other team can continue what opponent left.

Result:

The team who completes the tangram solutions soonest wins.

Guessing where

Time: 15 minutes

Members: Teams of 2-3

Materials: 1 set of tangram

Directions:

  • Teacher will provide the same shape of the tangram
  • Teammates will take turn to ask where the shape is. Ex Is the blue square on the left side of the red triangle?
  • Teacher only answers yes or not.
  • Who solve the solution needs to raised hand and say “ Wo hao le” which means I got it.

Result:

The team who completes the tangram solutions soonest wins.
