As we ensure that all teaching and learning is aligned to our JCCS Instructional Focus, including clear, relevant and rigorous learning targets and success criteria for every lesson and professional learning opportunities, our learning and work will become more purposeful and our students will be better prepared for success in college, career, and community involvement.

Learning Target:

We are learning how Hattie’s 10 Mindframes of thinking, learning targets, and success criteria impact student learning in order to apply it to our instruction.

Success Criteria:

  • I can explain how Hattie’s 10 Mindframes of thinking have an impact on student learning.
  • I can explain how learning targets and success criteria can impact student learning.

What do Learning Targets and Success Criteria Look Like?

RI.9-10.2 Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze for their development, summarize the key supporting details and ideas.

Learning Target: We are learning how to summarize the key supporting details and ideas of the text in order to better understand the central idea or theme of the text.

Task: Writing a summary

Language Focus: Sentence stems for paraphrasing:

Success Criteria:

  • I can clearly state the title, author, source, and main idea of the text.
  • The summary includes details that support the main idea.
  • I can follow the order and structure of the text.
  • I can use active voice and third person.
  • I can paraphrase (no quotations or direct sentences from the text.)
  • I can convey the author’s message in a neutral voice.
