Made up by hand motions, facial expressions, and body movements. Crossing your arms means you are angry or upset.

Appearance

A person’s clothing, hairstyle, use of cosmetics, neatness and stature can cause a listener in a business situations to make assumptions about the speaker's occupation and socioeconomic level.

In many occasions business managers prefer the corner office, as to show their superiority of having one of the best offices in the building.

Eye Contact

In the business world, giving eye contact displays confidence. Giving this confidence leads to maintaining a respectful, authoritative and professional environment.

Although, giving too much eye contact can display overconfidence and arrogance, or could be seen as aggression.

Touching

These types of nonverbal communications include; eye contact, body posture, hand signals, facial expressions, handshakes, waving, pointing or thumbs up.

These types of communications are very important in the business, because many of these are necessary when making a deal with a client.

For example, if you agree to a deal with a person from another country (that uses a different type of handshake) and you do not give them the type of handshake they use, they may feel offended and not want to proceed with the deal.

Personal Space

Personal space can affect communication between people in the business world. In America the distance is about as much as a desk, but in most Asian countries they prefer more space between each other.

Color

Theory states the cool colors are soothing, and that warm colors are energizing.

The choice of the color of you chose to wear to a business meeting can alter psychological reactions, judgements, and interpretations.

Numbers

Countries use numbers in very different ways. Most countries see the number 13 as very unlucky.

Emblems

Emblems are the movements which have a direct verbal translations, generally a verb or phrase.

For example, the popular hand gesture for The University of Texas Longhorns translates to “Hook em Horns”. That same gesture can displayed to an Italian man whose wife is having an affair.

Smells

The way people smell is acceptable in different ways depending on the country. In America people generally wear deodorant or cologne, but in other countries towards the East, the natural body odor is the best smell.
