Class
Dojo
Class Dojo-A dojo is, by formal definition, a formal training place, which makes it pair naturally with any K-12 classroom. Although the app foregoes the belt rankings you might find in more traditional dojo applications, it does allow you to easily award both merits and demerits based on classroom conduct to your class roster right from your iDevice or Android. Consequently, Class Dojo helps teachers improve behavior in their classrooms quickly and easily by generating behavior data that can then be shared with parents and administrators on the fly and younger kids will get a kick out of picking their own monster avatars. It’s said that more than 50 percent of class time is spent managing behavior rather than delivering instruction. And given how precious time becomes in a single class period, this statistic is huge. This app adds value to lessons because it provides troubleshooting and help with group work. Also, students can provide instant feedback to parents and administrators, students also get notifications and can help either encourage positive behavior or curb the negative – especially when they know their parents are finding out right away.

Remind
101
Remind 101 This is my favorite!Valuable to a lesson because students forget! This can be used as a reminder or even updates. Our students spend their days and nights text messaging as it is much easier. This app is built used to solve communication obstacles between teachers, students and parents using devices that rarely come unglued from our hands. Teachers are able to send SMS messages to individual students or class-wide to remind them of upcoming due dates or exams or simply send words of encouragement. And, as aforementioned, parents are also able to receive texts for upcoming conferences, updates on their child’s progress or more pressing behavioral/emergency matters. Neither you or your students/parents phone numbers are accessible through the app and communication lives and stays within Remind101’s interface entirely. It’s also worth mentioning that we were able to sign up within a couple minutes on its brilliant and clean interface so regardless of your tech proficiencies, you’ll be able to get Remind101 up and going very easily and it’s a great portal to start experimenting with the connected classroom movement if you haven’t already

Photos or any image can be imported into this clever program. Easy to add vocals, or import music. It is very easy to change how image is viewed during the video. Images can transition between closeup and distance to achieve more information from the photos.

PhotoStory by Donna Mack
I have used this program to create a movie for my first grade class, and used the transition editor to see close-ups of the kids in action shots. I added fun music and imported highlights from our year.
I also retold Wolf Island by Celia Godkin. I scanned the pages, imported music that plays in the background while an audio track of me reading the story played. This was more engaging for students in class, and students who were absent can access the story and makeup classtime.

I like Edmodo for its functionality to deliver messages (alerts), allow students to collaborate (small groups or whole group), calendar function to keep track of assignments I create or upload, and most importantly for submitting essays so students can read my comments! Edmodo allows me to annotate easily and students can read my handwriting. I can do this late at night, on weekends, wherever and whenever I can gain access to the internet. Students with internet access can immediately view my feedback and make necessary changes to writings immediately instead of waiting until I finish the stack and hand them back out. It also allows parents to sign up to view their own child’s work and stay connected with the assignments and learning in real time.
Edmodo also offers some lessons, quizzes that test for specific common core standards and then have videos or point toward videos that will deliver targeted interventions (some videos were great and some were less than desired).
Edmodo also allows students to reach out to each other when they need help and provides a digital backpack to store their work in similar to google drive.
