Word Study Lessons
The Word Study lesson for Week 1 is found on page 56-57 of the Teacher Guide. Table of contents for Word Study lessons is on page 37. See next slide for layout of week and tips to teach.
Daily lessons for the week. Spelling list will have a spelling pattern so be sure to tie it into the sound/spelling cards on the wall if they are up in the classroom.
Idea: Make the word cards on 3x5 cards for the sorts and other activities.
Modify the daily lesson to meet your needs. For the Day 4 speed sort you could have students make a T-chart on blank paper and as you call our a word or have partners do this - the student will write where the word goes.

Layout of week’s lessons
Main selection - found in student book. Spend at least 2 days on the lessons on this page. Note the suggested stopping points and the mini-lesson on story structure.
Day 3 can be the Read-Aloud Passage and mini-lesson. The weekly passages start on page 378 of the guide.
Day 4 and 5 can be on the second story.
The writing lessons start on page 260 of the guide and utilize the Writing Handbook which each student should have.
