Evaluating your product

    • Comment on each of your success criteria.
    • Describe the extent to which you met each criterion.
    • State whether there were any unexpected features that you achieved.

Did you achieve your success criteria?

    • Gather evidence to show the success criteria that you met.
    • Give evidence or examples to explain why you were unable to meet other success criteria.

How do you know?

Reflection prompts

When reflecting, you might want to ask yourself:

  • Were my success criteria too easy or too difficult?
  • How did the ATL skills contribute to the success of my product?
  • What was in my control? What was outside of my control?
  • What would I do differently if I started again?

If you did not meet all your success criteria, this does not mean that you have not been successful overall.

Examples of evaluating success criteria

A rubric similar to an MYP assessment rubric

A table with each goal and an evaluation of strengths and limitations

A list of each goal with an evaluation of whether expectations were met or not

A “traffic light” checklist

Evaluating evidence

  • Evaluate: make an appraisal by weighing up the strengths and limitations.

It is not sufficient to merely present survey results.

Has my personal project made me want to learn more about the subject or other related subjects?

During my research, have I found interesting resources that have made me want to keep learning?

Have I spoken to people who have inspired me or made me want to learn more?

I made some mistakes during my project. How have these mistakes helped me learn and move forward?

Tips and advice

You need to provide a detailed account, including reasons why the project had an impact on you.

You need to evaluate your product (making an appraisal by weighing strengths and limitations), systematically going through each of your stated success criteria.

If you choose to survey others for opinions on the quality of your product, you need to interpret that data to make an appraisal of the product’s quality: again, by weighing up strengths and limitations.
