Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful. 28 You have heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens so that when it does happen you may believe. 30 I will not talk with you much longer, because the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me. 31 On the contrary, so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do as the Father commanded me.

“Jesus means that the Father as the one who sends and commands is “greater” (in authority or leadership) than the Son. However, this does not mean that Jesus is inferior in his being and essence to the Father, as 1:1, 10:30, and 20:28 clearly show.”

“Jesus’ impending passion and death was not a defeat suffered at the hands of the prince of this world, but an act of obedience to the Father. The peoples of the world must learn this, and if they do they may cease to be the ‘world’ and be numbered among Jesus’ disciples. We often and rightly see Jesus’ death on the cross as the demonstration of God’s love for the world (3:16; Rom. 5:8) and of Jesus’ special love for believers (15:13; Gal. 2:20), but this verse reminds us that his death was first and foremost a demonstration to the world of his love and obedience to the Father. The Peace that Would Be Left With the Disciples
17 He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be in you. �(John 14:17)
13 In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed. 14 The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory. (Eph. 1:13-14)
The Contrast

To receive Jesus’ peace as our peace, we must acknowledge where we are running to in this world for our peace. Together, let’s lay down our hope in the world as our peace and take up Jesus’ peace.
Application
The Gift
“My peace I give to you.”
A) Jesus’ peace derived from His acceptance from the Father. We can find peace because we’ve been accepted through the Cross. �
Jesus was defined by the Father’s Love
Ephesians 2:13-15
“But now in Christ Jesus, you who were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who made both groups one and tore down the dividing wall of hostility. In his flesh, he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that he might create in himself one new man from the two, resulting in peace.”
Ephesians 2:19-22
“So, then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole building, being put together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you are also being built together for God’s dwelling in the Spirit.”
Application
Live thankful for the peace of God that was settled on the Cross.
Live in the peace of the new identity that defines you. See what the Word now says about you because of Jesus. Let that settle the peace of who you are. We are now His.

Application
Memorize Isaiah 26:3
The peace of God starts with a trust in who He is and what He says. Where do you place your faith today?
Declare over your life and your family: I have the peace of God because Christ is with me. I have the peace of God because Christ has given me His peace.
The Assurance
“Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

“Jesus responded to them, “Do you now believe? Indeed, an hour is coming, and has come, when each of you will be scattered to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”
