Retro Funding 6: Governance - Round details

Sign up: Oct 1st - Oct 14th | Application Review Process: Oct 14th - Oct 28th |

Voting: Oct 28th - Nov 7th | Results: Nov 19th

  • Retro Funding 6: Governance will reward impact which has been generated between October 2023 - September 18th 2024.
  • The Foundation is assigning a minimum OP Amount for the round of 1.1M OP and a maximum OP amount of 3.5m OP. Citizens will be able to vote for an OP amount within the range of minimum and maximum which they believe appropriately rewards the impact within the round.
  • Eligibility:
    • Governance Infrastructure & Tooling (including grants tooling)
    • Optimism Governance Analytics
    • Governance Leadership in the Collective

  • The Collective will experiment with collecting data on the impact of different governance contributions via attestations.
  • Impact attestations as part of this experiment are limited to contributions within the “Governance Infrastructure & Tooling” category.
  • Impact Attestations will be collected from Oct 14th until Oct 23rd
  • Top 100 Delegates, Citizens and governance leadership functions will be asked to participate in issuing impact attestations.

  • As a reviewer you should expect to commit a minimum of 10 hours to participating in the review process, from October 14 - October 28.
  • You are required to declare projects you have a conflict of interest with when applying to be a reviewer.
  • Citizens can opt-in to participate in the application review process until Oct 11th 19:00 UTC. 22 reviewers will be randomly selected from the citizens who have opted-in to review.
  • Diego, the Citizens’ House Gov NERD, will act as a non-voting lead reviewer.
  • Instead of randomly assigning reviewers to cases, there will be 4 reviewer groups with 5 reviewers each. Each reviewer will be randomly assigned to a group.

  • Optimists are expected to refrain from self-dealing.
  • Badgeholders are required to disclose any conflicts of interest during project reviews. These conflicts of interest will be public.
  • You may report any verifiable instance of a conflict of interest rule violation using the form linked here. Reports can be submitted up to Dec 18th.

Decentralization of Governance

  • Over the next two years, collaboration across the Optimism Collective will focus on:
    • Standardization & Decentralization
    • Customizable Chains
    • Scalability: Starts with 15-50 chains, scaling to 1000+
    • Protect user funds, security, and voting legitimacy
    • Sustainable Growth and development

  • A total of 53 applications, which included Superchain and audit applications.
    • 8 applications were declined during intake, 4 during preliminary round.
    • 41 applications moving forward to final review.

  • It involved two groups: Token House and Citizens' House. The main goal was to improve governance designs by incorporating community input!
  • This pilot exceed the goals set
  • Season 7 will convert the Commission into a persistent structure, complete with a Charter and Lead.
  • The next iteration is expected to launch in early November.
