FINALFORMS

  • One stop shop for all of the forms needed
  • Once you enter your information, it populates it and keeps it from year to year. Next year you just need to update and submit.
  • Your medical information is at the coaches fingertips when an emergency arises. They can put FINALFORMS up on their phone
  • Coaches can take attendance on FINALFORMS and it will notify you if your child is not a practice.

KSHSAA Eligibility

  • K.S.H.S.A.A. policy requires that all students pass at least five (5) subjects of unit weight in order to be eligible.
  • Middle schools have the choice of determining eligibility by the nine weeks or the semester-but can choose only one.
    • A.M.S. has chosen to determine eligibility by the grades from the prior nine weeks grading period.
  • No player may tryout or participate in practice or games while ineligible.
  • Eligibility is always determined by the administration prior to and student participating in practice or games.

KSHSAA Catastrophic Insurance

  • Deductible is $25,000 with cost going up.
  • Excess participant liability $500,000/occurrence.
  • Excess medical $5,000,000
  • Cash Indemnity/Disability Benefit $500,000
  • Accidental Death Benefit-$30,000
  • Aggregated Medical/Cash limit of indemnity $5,000,000
  • Not covered if not riding school transportation.
  • Covers athletics and other non-athletic KSHSAA groups.
  • Practice/competition/to and from event.
  • Does not cover 6th graders participating in middle school programs.

Private Lessons

  • KSHSAA Rule 26
  • Students can receive individual private lessons but cannot participate in group lessons during the season. Group is considered 2 or more participants. Season begins with first day of practice and ends after the last game.

Concussion/Heat Illness

  • Again this year, KSHSAA required all coaches to watch two videos: NFHS sponsored - Concussion in Sports and Heat Illness Prevention.
  • Again this year, KSHSAA required all athletes to watch a Concussion video before they can compete.
  • Parents, If you have questions about either, they are free courses that you can watch. NFHS courses are located at NFHSlearn.com and the Don’t Hide It, Report It, Take Time To Recover video is on youtube is a great resource for parent.

Transportation to/from events

  • All activities participants must meet the following regulations:
    • Must ride to the activity on school transportation.
    • If a group goes out to eat during the activity-all members must ride school transportation.
    • Must ride home on school transportation or meet one of the following exceptions.
      • May be signed out by their own parents from an activity.
      • May ride home with another (21 years or older) if arrangements are made in the office by at least the morning of the activity. The administration are the only people who can authorize this method of going home.
        • Athlete must still be signed out by the authorized parent taking them home.
      • Failure to properly sign out will result in discipline administrated by the coach/sponsor.
        • This is generally a one game suspension from the activity. Should it happen the last event it will result in after school time.
    • ** NEW in 2017-18: ACMS, Jaguar Stadium and Andover Public Schools Tennis Complex are considered away venues but parents will be responsible for picking up their students at those two venues. No bus will be returning to AMS.
    • **Exception is Football due to the amount of equipment that is hauled down to Jaguar Stadium.**

Andover USD 385 �Pay to Participate Policy

The Board of Education has approved a pay to participate athletic fee. Effective July 1, 2018 all students who participate in a KSHSAA athletic program will be required to pay a one time fee of $50.00 to participate. The fee will follow the free and reduced discount schedule: reduced shall be $25.00 and free will not have a charge. A Child Nutrition Application must be completed and approved for each school year to determine eligibility.

  • The participation fee must be paid prior to the first contest of each athletic program in order for the student to participate. Building administration will check all rosters to ensure payments have been received. Refunds will not be approved after the first contest of each athletic program is completed. Building administration will have discretion to approve refunds in exceptional situations. Refunds must be requested by parent and may not be issued by the district office (DO) until after the beginning of the spring season, unless student is leaving the district. All refund requests must be submitted to DO by May 1st or refund will not be processed.

Outside Competition

  • KSHSAA Rule Update: A student who is a member of a school athletic, scholars’ bowl or debate squad effective Monday Standard Calendar Week #7 ( August 16th) through Friday preceding Memorial Day may not participate as a member of an outside team or as an independent competitor in the same sport, scholars’ bowl or debate activity.
  • NOTE: Informal participation on the part of the student athlete, such as that experienced on the black top (concrete), in the park, local “Y”, etc. is not considered a violation of this rule, provided it was not formally called or organized, no coaching takes place, where no official score is kept, time kept, officials used, etc.
  • A student becomes a member of a school’s athletic squad, scholars’ bowl or debate team when he or she first participates in a practice session. Tryouts are considered practice sessions.
