We are excited to return to traditional operations in our building! Athletics are back! We do not yet know if we will be able to host large music concerts, but we are currently planning musical showcases.
NEW Reading Curriculum and Student Skill Assessment!
SCHOOL SUPPLIES!!
We have received supply donations from Walmart, the Walworth Children’s Foundation, and local churches. We are hoping to greatly limit what families are asked to purchase this year so please do not buy anything yet! If we do need you to buy anything for your child we will let you know in August.
Students do need a backpack, water bottle, and headphones *not earbuds*. Headphones will remain at school. If you cannot purchase these items please contact Mrs. Lueck. All students must have a pair of tennis shoes at school for gym.
**If you would like to donate money or items, please contact the school office and/or drop off items or funds.**
Disclaimer - Changing Guidelines and Mandates
*Any time a mandate is issued by the health department or other agency with authority over the school, the District will be required to implement the mandate.
You will notice that sometimes the federal government will announce updated guidance changes and that the school will not immediately adjust. The board reviews current guidance monthly. We will send an alert regarding any urgent changes.
Communication Plan
Our primary method of communication with families is via instant alert through text message/phone/email.
*Please make sure we have accurate phone numbers and an email address for you.
If you have questions at any time, please do not hesitate to call the school or email any member of the school office team!
Student Wellness Coach
This year the Sharon School will have a full-time wellness coach.
Alyssa Lueck, Ms. Lueck, will be teaching both physical and emotional health to students in grades 4K-8. She will be doing PBIS character coaching as well as intervention support for students. Please be on the lookout for monthly themes from her!
In addition to Ms. Lueck, we will have guidance lessons created by the Walworth school counselor for use in classrooms with her.
Any child experiencing emotional hardship should seek out Ms. Lueck.
2 Primary Learning Pathways
In order to mitigate learning loss and in order to staff appropriately, parents will need to select whether their students will be virtual full-time or on site full-time. Students will only be able to switch at the trimester.
However, when quarantine requires, students may be required to temporarily learn from home.
Virtual Option
Students who were not successful with virtual learning last year will not be permitted to participate in virtual learning this year, except for quarantine/inclement weather.
All families have the ability to choose virtual learning. Please contact Principal Christine Lueck if you wish to change your mind on virtual versus in school attendance at least one week in advance of a new trimester.
At any time a student, group, or the school needs to quarantine, learning will continue virtually. Virtual learning will also occur on any inclement weather days.
School On Site
Families have the option to send their children full-time.
What will it look like?
Traditional instruction with specials! Recess will be normal.
There will be one classroom per grade level with return to normal classroom size. This means that students will have traditional seating arrangements and we will do our best to socially distance for non-vaccine eligible ages, but students will not be 6 feet apart.
Students who are not vaccinated are encouraged to wear masks, but are not required to. Students who display cold symptoms will be evaluated by the nurse and may be sent home or required to wear a mask to stay, depending on frequency and severity of symptoms.
What do kids need to bring daily on site?
-All students need a water bottle and backpack daily!
-Older grades may require daily transportation of devices.
-Younger students may bring devices home if a quarantine or inclement weather day is anticipated. If you wish to request that your child bring their device home daily in grades 4K-3, please contact the teacher directly.
-All students need a daily snack and/or funds to purchase snacks.
-Breakfast/Lunch is free this year! Bring a sack lunch if you wish.
Grading
-All student attendance options will be graded according to the standards based system in Otus.
-Parents may access those grades online daily.
-We will have trimester grading periods in lieu of quarters to allow more time for students to improve performance and better align to our internal testing.
-Student awards will be given to recognize academic excellence based on product or performance in lieu of GPA.
-Ask your teacher any time for a re-do task.
What social distancing guidelines are in place?

Snack/Milk Break will still be served and delivered to classrooms. Students will have to bring their own snack and/or purchase one from the snack menu. Students must have money in their food service accounts to purchase snacks. If you do not want your child to order a snack, please contact the school office. We no longer offer community snacks, including birthday treats and holiday parties (We will have a birthday/holiday treat purchase option available, please contact Michele Vara at least 2 weeks in advance to order birthday/holiday treats.)

Quarantine Room/Nursing Services
Our nurse will be here full-time again this year!
She will excuse any COVID-19 related absences and approve return timelines for students and staff alike.
We will make adjustments to guidelines for required quarantine periods based on symptoms and vaccination status in line with Walworth County Health Department’s guidelines and local control.
Bus Routes - *Families may choose to self-transport*
-Seating charts by family
-Loading back to front
-Daily disinfecting
-We will have a more traditional route this year.
-Ms. Williams will be contacting families with times.
*Face coverings will be required on the bus.*
Will kids have to wear mask?
Masks are currently optional, but are required on the bus route due to the mix of students.
Masks may be required occasionally on a case by case basis or if local transmission rates spike. The nurse may require individual, temporary mask wearing due to illness. The Board will approval school wide mask mandates if necessary this cold/flu season. (Keep your fingers crossed!)
When do I need to keep my child home?
If they have any symptoms of COVID-19 keep them home or they will be sent home.
If you or anyone in your household is told to quarantine and your child is not vaccinated.
If anyone in your household has symptoms of COVID-19 and your child is not vaccinated.
-Until the nurse clears you for return, if you have had symptoms, been in quarantine, or been tested for COVID-19.
Any vaccinated child/employee is not required to quarantine if exposed, so long as he/she is symptom free!
Daycare Hours 2021-2022
We will be expanding our hours. We are currently trying to determine hours based on the need of the families participating in childcare. Please call and sign up!
We are accepting new enrollments for childcare!
Please contact Vicki Uden for rates and questions.
What about after-school athletics/clubs?
Athletics and Clubs are BACK!!
5th Graders are eligible for sports!
Please plan ahead if your student needs a sports physical.
We highly recommend that athletes be vaccinated for COVID if age eligible. Anyone with symptoms or exposed to COVID may be required to quarantine and miss large parts of the season and we would like to avoid this hardship.
Attendance
-COVID taught us loud and clear that our students need to be here at school everyday in order to close their learning gaps! Student attendance is crucial this year!
-Families who select on site attendance must bring their child daily. We are returning to a more normal attendance plan in that families are permitted 10 absences per year, this is currently based on legal requirements. Last year the state allowed a waiver for attendance but this is no longer the case.
-Families who do wish for greater flexibility should consider the virtual program if their student was successful in the virtual program last year.
