  • National costumes are - a name for traditional and historic costumes
  • Every Croatian region has its own national costume
  • Men wear trousers, vests and buttoned shirts
  • Women wear skirts, scarfs and bonnets

Klapa

  • Klapa is a group of male or female singers who sing in a special way, typical for Dalmatia
  • Usually 5 to 8 singers
  • One of the most popular klapa festivals of a capella singing is held in Omiš
  • Losing all links to Klapa would be like destroying old memories of the past
  • Today, everyone can enjoy the beauty of klapa singing if they visit Omiš during the festival

Heart of Licitar (gingerbread heart)

  • Licitar is a colorfully decorated cake made of honey dough
  • Traditionally it is of bright red color and produced in various shapes and sizes
  • The tradition of licitar making goes way back to the 16th and 17th century
  • Most of them have a little mirror in the middle
  • People usually give them as gifts

Pag and Lepoglava lace

  • There are two very famous types of fine, delicate lace:
    • Pag lace still made by women on the island Pag - made from very thin thread and it is hard to tear apart
    • Lepoglava lace - made from cotton or flax thread
  • Lace-makers from Pag do their patterns without any drawings

Sinjska alka (ring, hoop)

  • Traditional competition held in the town Sinj
  • The knight – the Alkar – aims at full gallop at the alka with an iron-topped wooden lance/spear
  • The ring, alka, consists of two concentric iron circles joined by three bars
  • The central circle, which is the smallest one, is worth three points (punat)
  • The upper field is worth two points, and two lower fields one point each

Špancirfest

  • The festival of street walkers which has been held every year since 1999 in Varaždin, Croatia, and lasts for 10 days
  • It begins at the end of August, and ends at the beginning of September
  • Varaždin's inner circle is turned into an entertainment zone
  • Concert stages, entertainment zones, shopping stands, street performers, musicians, etc.

Varaždin Baroque Evenings

  • Classical music festival – concerts take place in the theatre and churches in Varaždin and in nearby places
  • Each year a different partner country (Italy, Austria, Turkey, Russia, Spain…)
  • established in 1968
  • this year we held the 51st Varaždin Baroque Evenings
  • starts at the end of September or the beginning of October
  • accompanied by book presentations, music seminars, art exhibitions, numerous other events
