Installation

  1. Install Unity 2021.2 (recommended version)
  2. Create a new project with 3D (HDRP) or 3D Sample Scene (HDRP) templates

(Note: URP is not supported at the moment but planned for future versions)

Activate Probe Volumes

  • Activate the Probe Volumes experimental feature
  • Enable Probe Volumes in the Camera Lighting
  • Enable Probe Volumes in the Reflections (optional)
  • Enable Probe volumes per quality settings

Use Probe Volumes

  • Create one or multiple probe volume GameObjects
  • Make it global or adjust the size
  • Set lights to mixed
  • Set dynamic objects to Receive Global Illumination from Light Probes and small & mid size static objects that would influence GI to Contribute Global Illumination
  • Bake lighting from the Probe Volumes Settings panel

Tweak Probe Volumes

  • Visualize probes using Rendering debugger
  • Tweak per Probe Volume setting in the Probe Volume component
  • Tweak general baking settings from the Probe Volume Settings panel
  • Tweak contextual runtime rendering parameters in Probe Volumes Settings volume override
  • Turn on/off probe volumes in the HDRP global asset to check their influence.
