  • Command v= paste
  • esc= escape, this will cancel actions or programs on your computer

Internet & Web Browsers

Wifi

Laptops should automatically be connected to the internet via wifi. However if you are having trouble connecting to the internet, check the network connection.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Click the wifi icon at the top of your screen.
  2. Select either the 4J secure or 4J wireless networks.
  3. Enter your 4J username and password.

Web Browsers

Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are the two recommended web browsers.

We suggest using Google Chrome.

Make sure you are logged into your Google Account using your 4J login credentials. You will not be able to access 4J restricted materials, if you are not signed in.

Hubs

Hubs expand a single laptop port into multiple different ports. These ports can be HDMI, MicroSD cards, USB-A, auxiliary jacks, and others.

To attach the hub to the computer, insert the USB-C port into the computer.

USB-C port - plug this into the side of the computer

Adaptors

If you are given an older Macbook with a thunderbolt port, an adaptor is needed to attach the computer to the projector.

Plug the adaptor into the computer and then figure out what type of port the other end needs to connect to.

The two most common ports are VGA and HDMI. Unplug the necessary cable from the hub and plug it into the adaptor.

Projectors

Almost all classrooms should have a projector mounted on the ceiling. Turn on the projector using the Epson remote.

Buttons:

Power: Blue button

Freeze: will freeze the image on the screen

Source Search: will automatically search for any source input

A/V Mute: will temporarily turn off the projector

  • Newer building like North have a control panel on the wall

  • You will still need to plug in the computer to the HDMI cord

  • Instead of using a remote, you will use these buttons to turn the projector on, control volume, and select source input.

Mirroring

Sometimes even after you plug everything in, you can see your background on the projector screen, but nothing else (no tabs, slideshows, etc). Here’s how to fix that:

Document Cameras

Buttons

Camera/PC button: allows you to switch back and forth between the computer and document camera displays. Be sure your computer adaptor is plugged in before switching to PC mode.

AF = Auto-focus: if your image is blurry, pressing this button will automatically focus the camera.

Freeze/Stop Button: Will freeze the image on the screen. Letting you remove the items for underneath the camera, but still project the image.

Zoom In/Out: These buttons will zoom in and out. If you are zooming in you may have to reposition the camera or document.

Document cameras are helpful for when you want to project non-digital resources to the class. You can display a book, share student work, or model how to complete a worksheet using a document camera.

Audio

In most classrooms, to connect the computer to the speakers, you will need to plug the audio jack into the computer. In some cases you may need to unplug the audio jack from the microphone charger and plug it into the computer.

  1. Turn the audio device on
  2. Click the black and white buttons at the top of your screen
  3. Select “bluetooth”
  4. Make sure bluetooth is on
  5. Select the speaker from devices
