Swimming has always been a part of the Olympics

It was 1 of the first 9 sports in the Olympics

Swimming has changed a lot since the beginning from swimming in the mediterranean sea to swimming in indoor pools

There are 4 different strokes in swimming: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly. The individual medley uses all 4.

Lastly, swimming also has different lengths that are raced just like track

The Physics

Hydrodynamics is the main science used in swimming

It focuses on the force that is applied on the swimmer and looks for the best ways to optimize the least amount of force or the resistance the swimmer feels

This is why swimmers shave their legs or other parts of their body to reduce the drag, while swimming

Newton’s 3rd law of motion is also used when the swimmer pushes the water back the water pushes them forward across the pool.

In the 2024 olympics right now the United States has the most medals with 28, next is Australia with 18

An interesting fact about the Olympics this year is the rivalry between the women from the United States and Australia
