February PAC Review - Literacy

  • SLPS adopted a new standards-based program to support student literacy called SAAVIS
  • SAAVIS is used for students up to 8th grade
    • SLPS is looking into support programs for high schoolers and will have a proposal for the Board of Ed by the end of the year
  • SAAVIS benefits include:
    • Digital components
    • Tiered instruction
  • Reading specialists are in most schools and serve as a resource for teachers and parents if they have concerns about a child’s reading levels
  • If you are concerned about your child or want to know more about how to support their learning, your first stop needs to be your child’s teacher
    • Your child’s teacher can also connect you to the SAAVIS parent portal, where you can track your child’s progress
    • See the PAC communication chart in the chat
  • Questions?
    • Dr. Kim Moody - kim.moody@slps.org
    • Dr. Kay Royster - kay.royster@slps.org
