  • Continue the implementation plan to move towards guaranteed & viable curriculum - despite our current situation!
  • Use our knowledge of unit mapping to help us build upon Acellus
  • Make a plan for teaching priority standards
  • Feel confident about the role between standards instruction and using Acellus as a tool
  • Provide an opportunity for asking & answering questions

Our Destination Has Not Changed!

Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum!

Reminders . . .

We know:

  • The standards
  • What instructional strategies work best for our kids
  • Which standards we know we need to teach synchronously

We get to stay in the driver’s seat of the bus! Acellus is our steady passenger.

The Plan

Projection and Unit Maps are temporarily on hold, but we:

  • Will do work that will be useful to add to existing maps
  • Have aligned the priority standards to the Acellus units
  • Will make a plan for synchronous teaching of those standards
  • Utilize the plans you already have for priority standards
  • Will make a plan for remaining priority standards that you can use in future years!

Let’s look at the planning tool!

You will find it in the quick links doc

Remember the Flow of Step 1?

  • Choose Priority standards
    • Deconstruct to student-friendly learning targets
      • Select/revise a post-assessment
        • Use resources & materials to decide which lessons match, what to skip/skim, what needs to be supplemented
            • Select additional strategies for Core
              • Create pre-assessment
                • Create scoring agreements
                  • Administer pre-assessment & score

Use the Acellus aligned map

You may have this from last year

Decide which Acellus lessons to give and which to hide

Plan your synchronous instructional strategies for the standard

Deconstructing Standards

  1. Write down the FULL Standard.
  2. What is the Type of Target?
    1. (Knowledge, Reasoning, Skills, Product, Disposition)
  3. What are the Nouns? (Define as needed)
  4. What are the Verbs? (Define as needed)
  5. What are the Knowledge Targets that underpin the reasoning?
  6. What are the Reasoning Targets?* Skills?* Products?*
  7. Write Targets in Student Friendly Language

Important to Remember!

  1. Our focus for collaborative work in ELA this year will be continuing to ensure the teaching and learning around priority standards

  • While Acellus is the primary tool for instruction online, teachers need to supplement (using Journeys or Collections) for priority standards that are not adequately covered in Acellus

  • Once we are able to move to hybrid, teachers should use Journeys or Collections to drive their face to face instructional time on priority standards, while utilizing Acellus as a spiral review and practice for the days kids are at home. Essentially, the two resources roles will flip flop

Work Time

  • Start with a unit that is upcoming
  • Check your unit maps to see if you already have deconstructed the standard and mapped it
  • If you have not yet already done so, deconstruct the standard into student friendly learning targets
  • Record which lessons you want students to do and which you want to skip in Acellus
  • Plan your synchronous strategies
  • Rinse and repeat for the next unit

Please ask for help in your breakout room if needed!

Next Steps

  • Make a plan with your team to keep this going before units are taught!
  • Don’t forget to use what you already have before you start a new standard.
  • EdEx will make sure this information gets on to your unit maps for future years.
  • Let us know if you need help!
